Powers Comes Back in Suspended Game, Then Complete Series Sweep Powers started the day down to Davison 6-2 in the fifth inning of Monday’s suspended contest (due to darkness). In the bottom of the sixth, Eli Sturgess drilled a 3-run homer over the right field fence to cap a 5-run uprising to put the Chargers ahead 7-6. Aidan Corcoran retired the Cardinals 1-2-3 in the seventh to earn his second save in as many games to support the two innings of scoreless relief by winning pitcher Tom Begola. Sturgess, Kane Sekelsky, and Aidan Walls each finished with two hits to lead the offense. In the third game of the series, Powers exploded for a 10-run third that permanently ruffled the Cardinals’ feathers for the day, coasting to a 13-1 win in five innings. Landon Bohanon did his part on the mound, pitching a no-hitter for 4 and two-thirds until a bunt single broke it up. The Chargers later gave up an unearned run—the only run scored in eight innings of work on the day. Drew Simmons and Eli Sturgess recorded a pair of hits; eight other Chargers smacked a hit for an exceptional TEAM win. We are a game out first in the SVL South Division with four games to go. One baseball historical note for Powers Catholic Baseball: Coach Tom Dutkowski, 44 years at the helm, recorded win 900 and 901 on the afternoon. Not bad for scruffy but blessed kid who grew up on the Westside of Flint. He remains “Entitled to Nothing, Grateful for Everything.” Amen! Powers hosts red-hot Fenton at home Saturday, 10am, for a non-league doubleheader.
