Goggins Fieldhouse -
On a cold January evening where all the schools were closed and the weather was freezing the hot shooting of the Powers Catholic Girl’s Basketball team warmed Goggins Fieldhouse to an unbearable temperature for the visiting Bay City Central Wolves. The Chargers came out early taking a 26-7 lead after one and building to a 71-23 victory over the visiting Wolves.
The highlight of the evening was when Junior Kendyl Smith hit a deep range 3 to surpass 1,000 career points in her high school career. The 3 was assisted by Danielle Bobowski. Smith finished the game with 27 points. Sensational Freshmen Evah Smith finished with another double double of 13 points and 13 rebounds while Junior Paige Ringwelski finished with 13 points.
The Chargers held the Wolves to 8 second half points including a shut out in the 4th quarter. After the game Coach Trevithick had this to say about the Chargers performance.
“Tonight was an amazing representation of what our program has been about. A lot of people look at our team and think one person is the only person you have to stop and tonight just shows that we have fire power all around. The hardest part about defending a kid like Kendyl is that she’s willing to get her teammates involved early and often. It’s great to see her reach 1,000 points and we couldn’t be more proud of her. The hard work she puts in she deserves that acknowledgment.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers begin preparations for their rivalry game on Tuesday night against the Cardinals of Davison High School in a highly anticipated SVL matchup. The game is also Military Appreciation Night as teams will honor and recognize those veterans who have served our country prior to the game. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm with the JV tipping at 4:00pm.
