Goggins Fieldhouse -
On a non-traditional Monday evening and a day off of school proved to be just what the Chargers (12-5) needed to return to Goggins Fieldhouse against visiting Bay City John Glenn. The visiting Bobcats came into the game with a record of 8-9 and were looking to play spoilers to the return to the home court for the Chargers. However, the Powers girls basketball team had different plans for the evening.
Jumping out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter the Chargers turned up the tempo and sprinted out to a 39-13 halftime lead. The deficit would prove to be too much for the Bobcats as the Chargers used at 19-7 3rd quarter to take an overwhelming lead towards a 68-26 victory on Monday at Goggins Fieldhouse.
“It was nice to get back on our home floor for the first time in a while. We know going into this that they were going to be able to challenge us in certain areas so we wanted to keep them at bay with pressure and get our transition game going.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers did just that leading the way were Juniors Paige Ringwelski and Kendyl Smith scoring 19 points a piece while Freshman Evah Smith added 11 and Sophomore Giselle Wolschleger scored 8. The Chargers were able to get the entire roster into the game for significant minutes and used the opportunity to prepare for the next step in the season.
“It was great to get everyone opportunities tonight. They work really hard in practice and deserve a chance to compete. The last few games have been battles of top level teams in conference and we had to treat them as such. Tonight we saw a lot of great energy and effort from all of the girls.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers return to action quickly tomorrow evening vs SVL opponent Carman Ainsworth in the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night as well as Senior Night to honor two seniors on this years team, Lindsay Krampe and Makayla Stewart. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm with Senior Night ceremonies at 6:35pm. There is no JV game scheduled tomorrow.
