Chargers and Lightning Jolt Each Other in SVL Baseball Action
Visiting Lapeer used a 5-run second to doom Powers in an 8-1 first-game victory. The Chargers were held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when pinch hitters Keagen Kohlhoff and Logan Gowan delivered a single and double that produced the lone run.
In the nightcap, Powers answered the Lightning’s opening inning run with an Eli Sturgess triple who later scored on a wild pitch. That shot to right centerfield gap seemed to ignite the Charger dugout and lineup. In the bottom of the 2nd, Sturgess blasted a two-run homer in a 6-run inning. And the hitting heroes just kept coming: Kohlhoff delivered an inside the park HR and a single; Nathan Gebhardt went 3 for 3 featuring a pair of triples; Chase Newcomb drilled a double, single for an RB; Aidan Olah knocked in two with a single and fielder’s choice. Together, the Charger attack produced 12 hits. Michael Borg and Sturgess combined for a two-hitter with one earned run in the 10-1 victory with Borg collecting the “W” in five-inning game halted by darkness.
Powers 2-2 overall (1-2 SVL) returns to action at home on Wednesday vs. Saginaw Union. Make note that the Wednesday matchup was moved up a day to avoid conflict with Holy Thursday services.
