Powers Rallies in the 7th to Take Williamson Tournament Crown
After rolling over Montrose 12-2 in five innings in the first game of the Williamson Memorial Tournament at Brandon HS, the Chargers found themselves down 2-1 to the host team in the top of the seventh with two outs and nobody on base. Then, Donovan Marino patiently drew a walk. Next, pinch hitter Kael Morningstar did the same. During next hitter Drew Simmons’ at-bat, the Blackhawk pitcher balked, moving runners to second and third. With two strikes, Simmons eventually drilled a double just inside the left field line to send home the tying and go-ahead runs. Santino Evely shut down Brandon 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the tourney title.
Powers’ offense clicked in the first game with nine hits and six walks. Eli Sturgess led the way with a 2-run homer and another hit for a three-RBI game. Nathan Gebhardt and Aidan Olah added two hits and an RBI apiece. Olah drilled a triple and a double.
The Chargers (15-9 overall) travel to Bay City Central on Monday to begin the final week of SVL play in 2025.
