It was a fantastic evening for fall soccer at historic Atwood Stadium, where the Powers varsity soccer team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Midland Dow Chargers 3-2. With this hard-fought victory, Powers improved their overall record to 13-3-2.
The match started with Dow coming out strong, scoring two quick goals in the first 25 minutes. However, Powers quickly shifted their strategy and mounted a comeback in the last 13 minutes of the half. Junior Logan Johnson set the stage with a precise pass that allowed Senior Landon Lascavage to net a crucial tap-in, putting Powers on the board. The momentum continued as Senior Leo Stravato unleashed a powerful shot through traffic, leveling the score at 2-2 by halftime.
The second half saw Dow pressing hard, but Powers' defense held firm despite facing a tough call that resulted in a player being sent off. Undeterred by the man down disadvantage, Powers found their stride again. At the 17-minute mark, Junior Grant Roberts received a pass from Sophomore Mason Mather and skillfully advanced up the left flank. He delivered a brilliant cross-field pass to an oncoming Leo Stravato, who launched a stunning one-timer from 25 yards out, sealing the victory for Powers.
What an incredible comeback! The boys really energized the crowd with their grit and determination. Up next, Powers will face Davison on Monday, October 7, at Atwood. Don’t forget—it’s senior night and a Pink Out event! Let’s show our support!
