1 month ago @ 8:43AM
The Powers Catholic Girl’s Varsity Basketball team opened their season with a big road win against Clarkston High School. With a 62-55 victory the Chargers were paced in scoring by Junior Kendyl Smith with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Freshman Evah Smith made her debut for the Chargers with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Paige Ringwelski helped contribute 10 points for the Chargers.
“I thought we had a good night overall. Clarkston is a tough opponent and they’re going to win a lot of games this season. Aaron does a great job with his team and had them prepared to compete. I just think tonight we were fortunate to make more shots.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers shot the ball well in deed going 47.2% from the field along with 41% from deep. The real number though was going 18-22 from the free throw line.
“I think the difference in this game was our ability to get to the line and convert. Shooting over 80% from the free throw line made a huge difference as we were able to keep a lead late into the game by stepping up and knocking down free throws.” - Coach Trevithick
Powers returns to action on Tuesday December 10 @ Ypsilanti Arbor Prep.
