Powers Boys Varsity Soccer Wins Intense Battle Against Detroit Catholic Central

What a night on the pitch! Perfect weather set the stage for a thrilling game that saw Powers varsity soccer team edge out Detroit Catholic Center (DCC) in a high-scoring spectacle. The first half saw Powers seemingly cruising with a commanding 3-0 lead, but the second half turned into an absolute roller coaster with a total of 7 goals scored between the two teams!

A huge shout-out to sophomore Mason Mather, who delivered a standout performance with 5 goals. Center back Colin Johnson also contributed with a crucial goal for Powers. The game began with the Shamrocks applying heavy offensive pressure, but Powers' defense stood firm, denying their attack. Powers soon found their rhythm, and Mather’s first-half hat trick had them looking like they were on their way to an easy victory.

However, the Shamrocks had other plans. They came out of the break with renewed energy, scoring two quick goals to close the gap to 3-2. The Chargers were under pressure, but Colin Johnson and his brother Logan made their presence felt. Colin’s header, set up by Logan, pushed the score to 4-2.

The Shamrocks continued to fight, scoring once more to make it 4-3. Their high-pressure defense left them vulnerable, and Powers took advantage. Logan Johnson set up Mather for his fourth goal, extending the lead to 5-3. Despite their best efforts, the Shamrocks managed another goal, making it 5-4 with 15 minutes still to play.

With the game on the line, Stavato found Mather, who delivered the final blow with his fifth goal, sealing the 6-4 victory.

If you haven’t yet seen our boys in action, you’re missing out on some top-notch soccer! Don’t miss the next game as Powers takes on Carman-Ainsworth on Monday, September 16th, at 6 pm at Atwood Stadium. See you there!
