Powers GBB Finishes SVL & Regular Season On High Note

The Powers Catholic Girl’s Varsity Basketball team finished the regular season and SVL play on a high note, defeating the host Lapeer Lightning by a score of 54-29.  Senior Makenna Pobocik exploded for 22 points with 5 3FGM.  Freshman Paige Ringwelski scored 9 and Junior Grace Cameron added 8 points and 7 assists.

“Tonight we played a really good team game.  Our defense was aggressive and opportunistic forcing Lapeer into several mistakes early and we capitalized on it by shooting the ball well.  Makenna stepped up big for us and Grace handled the pressure by finding open teammates.  We’ve had such an incredible year this year and so much to be excited about heading into post season.  This group is a special group and I look forward to seeing what we can do in March.” - Coach Trevithick

The Chargers finished the regular season with a 15-7 overall record and a 4th place finish in the SVL with a 8-4 overall record.  The post-season is now upon the Chargers as they host the MHSAA District Tournament at Goggins Fieldhouse starting next Wednesday March 1.

“We are excited to be able to compete for a championship in our gym.  The girls have put a ton of time into the preparation of this and we’ve been looking forward to the opportunity.  We know what we have to do, now it’s about executing that game plan and defending our home court.”  - Coach Trevithick

Powers is set to tip off at 5:30pm against Lake Fenton in a rematch of last year’s district semi-final loss at Goodrich.  Linden and Goodrich play immediately after scheduled for a 7:00pm tip.
