On Saturday, in the District Tournament at Owosso, the Chargers overwhelmed Linden in five innings, 12-0 and finished off Lake Fenton in six, 10-0. Grant Garman threw four innings in the opener, giving up one hit, striking out five. Fischer Hendershot tossed a 1-2-3 fifth to close it out. Connor Kelly went 4-for-4 and Isaac Sturgess had a towering two-run homer among his three hits to pace the offense.
In the championship match-up, Powers jumped to a 6-0 lead after one inning, as Nick Stimac stunned the Blue Devils with a three-run homer. Kelly continued his hot hitting by adding a pair of safeties, and Luke Dupuis drilled a pair of singles to match his hit total in the opener. The junior infielder reached base in all six at-bats on the day, scoring five runs and driving in three. Joe Vermette smacked a two-out single to drive in the Chargers tenth run in the sixth, triggering the mercy rule in walk-off style. The pitching duo of Kelly and Sturgess combined to strikeout eleven and limit Lake Fenton to one hit.
Powers (30-8) is now slated to play Williamston in Regional Semi’s on Wednesday, June 7th, at 5 pm. Tickets available at Go Fan.
