After losing the previous two games the Powers Chargers were able to right the ship and move to (4-2) on the season with a 19-8 victory over the Linden Eagles.
Coach Baker and the Chargers defense were key in securing the win by causing 12 total turn overs and killing off all 4 of Powers’ penalties. Neutralizing the Eagles Extra Man Offense as well as staying out of the penalty box allowed the Chargers offense to get in a rhythm and continue playing “team first” offense. The selfless team effort was led by Joey Engel (2G/3A/5P), Max Phillpotts (3G/3A/6P) and Peter Huey (3G/3A/6P).
When asked which of the Chargers performances stood out in his mind, Coach Schramm commented “To know for certain we will have to review the game film but what jumps out to me from a quick glance at the stat book is Jack Snodgrass’ healthy stat line of 7 Ground Balls and 2 Caused Takeaways. It was also nice to see some shots start going for Charlie Fritz” as he posted his career high single game goal total of 6 Goals as well as an assist for a total of 7 points on the day.
Coach Schramm finished by highlighting attack man Peter Huey. “Huey had himself a day though, 6 points is a great day for any attack man but when you put up 6 points and back it up with 14 ground balls, you become a game changer.”
Flint Powers continues SVL conference play on Thursday April 20th at home (Atwood Stadium) against Bay City Western. JV begins at 4:30pm and Varsity at 6pm.
