Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Banquet- Dream Team Honors

Powers Varsity soccer players Leo Stravato and Grant Roberts were recognized at the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Banquet on Saturday night in Lansing. Both received First Team All-State honors, and Leo was additionally named to the 2024 Dream Team.
Powers 1 – Notre Dame Prep 2

Although we didn’t get the result we hoped for, last night's game between #1-ranked Notre Dame Prep and #2-ranked Powers Catholic was fantastic. It’s a tough loss, but our boys should be proud of their performance and their accomplishments this season.
The first half was a hard-fought defensive battle, with both teams held scoreless. Early in the second half, Prep scored two quick goals, putting us in a tough position. Senior Leo Stravato responded, finding the back of the net a third of the way into the half. Down by one, Powers fought hard to even the score, creating several chances and hitting the crossbar, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Our season comes to an end here, but what a season it’s been!
Special thanks to Coach Paul Stravato and the entire coaching staff for their incredible leadership. This team has been amazing—all our boys played like true warriors! Good luck to all the seniors as they move forward, and we’re thrilled to share that we received great news this morning about Tino and his recovery. Go Chargers!
An Emotional Win for Tino! POWERS 1 – IMLAY CITY 0

Wearing the number 5 on their wrists to honor ailing teammate Tino Jamison and with everything on the line, the Powers Chargers rallied together for a hard-fought victory over the tenacious Imlay City Spartans. It was a well-deserved and emotional win for the boys.
The game's only goal came just six minutes in. Senior Leo Stravato found an opening on the right side of the box but, under heavy defensive pressure, opted to pass left to a streaking Logan Johnson, who buried the shot! It was a brilliant display of teamwork that secured the win.
The rest of the match was a defensive battle. Imlay City fended off several scoring opportunities, but a shout out goes to our keeper, Armando Lopez, for making key saves, and to our back line, who fought hard to preserve the shutout.
Next up is the regional final on Friday night, October 25th, at 6:30 p.m. at Atwood Stadium. Let's show up and support the team! Go Chargers!
District Championship: Powers 5 – Laingsburg 0

The fall weather in Michigan has been perfect for playoff soccer, and the Powers Varsity Boys took advantage and captured the district championship yesterday with a decisive win over the Laingsburg Wolfpack. It was a true team effort, with every player contributing on the field.
The first half saw Powers dominate possession. Junior Regan Cameron opened the scoring with a high-arching shot just under the crossbar at the 15-minute mark. Five minutes later, he scored again with high banger from distance, making it 2-0. Senior Leo Stravato then added a fantastic goal, striking a strong waist-high pass out of mid-air. Stravato capped off the half with another goal.
The second half began with Junior Logan Johnson finding the back of the net and completing the day’s scoring at 5-0.
Next up is the regional opener Wednesday October 23rd at Atwood Stadium against Imlay City, with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. Come out and support our boys! Imlay City always brings a loud crowd, so we need as many fans as possible to cheer for our team. Go Chargers!
District Semi-Final: Powers 9 – Durand 1

Powers soccer kicked off their district playoff journey in impressive fashion last night at Atwood Stadium, securing a dominant 9-1 victory over the Durand Railroaders despite cool temperatures and intermittent rain. It was a fantastic team effort, with every player contributing on the pitch.
Koen Hernandez started the scoring, followed by Colin Johnson. Leo Stravato netted two goals, while Grant Roberts also scored twice, and Mason Mather with 3 goals.
Next up, the Chargers head to the district final on Friday, October 18th, at Montrose High School, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. It's a thrilling day for Powers sports, featuring playoff soccer followed by the varsity football team's game at Atwood at 7 p.m. Let’s rally behind our teams! Senior Night Celebration and Pink Out Success!

What a perfect evening to celebrate our seniors and support breast cancer awareness with a Pink Out! Our boys donned pink and blue uniforms and delivered an impressive performance, defeating the Davison Cardinals 4-0.
In keeping with Senior Night traditions, all of our senior boys started the game and quickly took control. Senior Leo Stravato opened the scoring, followed shortly by Julien Damouni finding the back of the net. The first half concluded with a goal from Sophomore Mason Mather.
Junior Revon Helal sealed the victory with an early goal in the second half, bringing the final score to 4-0. Congratulations to the entire team for finishing the season strong! A huge thank you to all the fans who came out to support Senior Night and breast cancer awareness.
Looking ahead, we have a tune-up scrimmage against Oxford on Wednesday at Atwood, starting at 6 p.m. District playoffs begin next week—schedule TBD. Let’s keep the momentum going!
ANOTHER WIN FOR PCHS VARSITY SOCCER

It was a fantastic evening for fall soccer at historic Atwood Stadium, where the Powers varsity soccer team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Midland Dow Chargers 3-2. With this hard-fought victory, Powers improved their overall record to 13-3-2.
The match started with Dow coming out strong, scoring two quick goals in the first 25 minutes. However, Powers quickly shifted their strategy and mounted a comeback in the last 13 minutes of the half. Junior Logan Johnson set the stage with a precise pass that allowed Senior Landon Lascavage to net a crucial tap-in, putting Powers on the board. The momentum continued as Senior Leo Stravato unleashed a powerful shot through traffic, leveling the score at 2-2 by halftime.
The second half saw Dow pressing hard, but Powers' defense held firm despite facing a tough call that resulted in a player being sent off. Undeterred by the man down disadvantage, Powers found their stride again. At the 17-minute mark, Junior Grant Roberts received a pass from Sophomore Mason Mather and skillfully advanced up the left flank. He delivered a brilliant cross-field pass to an oncoming Leo Stravato, who launched a stunning one-timer from 25 yards out, sealing the victory for Powers.
What an incredible comeback! The boys really energized the crowd with their grit and determination. Up next, Powers will face Davison on Monday, October 7, at Atwood. Don’t forget—it’s senior night and a Pink Out event! Let’s show our support!
POWERS 2 - LAPEER 2- Tie

In an exciting, fast paced match, the Chargers faced off against Lapeer Lightning, resulting in a 2-2 tie.
The Chargers took an early lead when Kole Raymond's corner kick found Koen Hernandez for the opening goal. Lapeer responded just before halftime, leveling the score.
The second half saw intense back and forth action, with Lapeer taking the lead with 15 minutes remaining. However, the Chargers rallied when Logan Johnson drew a handball in the box, earning a penalty kick. Leo Stravato converted the PK, equalizing the game. Despite opportunities for both teams, neither could secure a win before time expired.
Many players on the field are longtime friends and club teammates, making it super exciting to watch these teams compete against each other.
POWERS 1 – DETROIT COUNTRY DAY 0

What a thrilling match last night! The #3 ranked Chargers showcased their skills and determination at historic Atwood Stadium, defeating the #1 ranked Yellow Jackets 1-0 in a tense battle.
Both teams began cautiously, focusing on possession and looking for openings, but neither could find the back of the net in the first half. The half remained tight throughout, with both defenses holding strong.
In the second half, the Chargers shifted gears, becoming more aggressive. Just 10 minutes in, Junior Logan Johnson made a brilliant run up the right flank and delivered a perfect cross to Senior Julian Damouni, who executed a stunning header, catching the DCC keeper off guard. What a goal!
The Yellow Jackets responded by ramping up their attack, but Senior Keeper Armando Lopez was on fire, making crucial saves to maintain the lead. The defensive line—Junior Grant Roberts, Sophomore Colin Johnson, Senior Tino Jameson, and Senior Koen Hernandez—was rock solid, ensuring a hard-fought victory.
A huge shoutout to the entire team for their max effort and teamwork! Next, the Chargers face Saginaw United at Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy (Soccer Field) 3115 Mackinaw St. on Thursday, September 26th, at 6 PM. Let’s go, Chargers!
Tough Loss vs. GB

Tough loss for the team last night against the Bob Cats. The boys gave it their all, but ultimately came up short.
The Chargers controlled the first half, with Sophomore Mason Mather scoring the opening goal and finishing the half strong. Early in the second half, Junior Logan Johnson had a breakaway and hit the right post. Senior Leo Stravato was right there to capitalize on the deflected shot, making it 2-0.
The Bob Cats rallied in the last 30 minutes, showcasing their depth and determination, scoring three straight goals to clinch the win.
It's a quick turnaround. The boys are back at Atwood tonight for a game against Bay City Central at 4:30 PM. Let’s rally behind them!
Powers Boys Varsity Soccer Wins Intense Battle Against Detroit Catholic Central

What a night on the pitch! Perfect weather set the stage for a thrilling game that saw Powers varsity soccer team edge out Detroit Catholic Center (DCC) in a high-scoring spectacle. The first half saw Powers seemingly cruising with a commanding 3-0 lead, but the second half turned into an absolute roller coaster with a total of 7 goals scored between the two teams!
A huge shout-out to sophomore Mason Mather, who delivered a standout performance with 5 goals. Center back Colin Johnson also contributed with a crucial goal for Powers. The game began with the Shamrocks applying heavy offensive pressure, but Powers' defense stood firm, denying their attack. Powers soon found their rhythm, and Mather’s first-half hat trick had them looking like they were on their way to an easy victory.
However, the Shamrocks had other plans. They came out of the break with renewed energy, scoring two quick goals to close the gap to 3-2. The Chargers were under pressure, but Colin Johnson and his brother Logan made their presence felt. Colin’s header, set up by Logan, pushed the score to 4-2.
The Shamrocks continued to fight, scoring once more to make it 4-3. Their high-pressure defense left them vulnerable, and Powers took advantage. Logan Johnson set up Mather for his fourth goal, extending the lead to 5-3. Despite their best efforts, the Shamrocks managed another goal, making it 5-4 with 15 minutes still to play.
With the game on the line, Stavato found Mather, who delivered the final blow with his fifth goal, sealing the 6-4 victory.

Chargers Outshine Oilers: A Power-Packed Performance

The #4 ranked Powers Varsity soccer team netted their fourth win in a row with a strong second half performance defeating the Mt. Pleasant Oilers 4-1 last night.
Leo Stravato was the lone scorer in the first half. The second opened with Mt. Pleasant striking first for their only goal. Minutes later, Powers Collin Johnson scored decisively off a corner kick. Logan Johnson followed with a nice header into the left side of the net. With only seconds left in the game, Senior Julian Damouni was taken down in the box and finished on the awarded PK to complete the match.
Next up the boys play Detroit Catholic Central tonight, September 10th – 6:15 pm, Atwood Stadium. JV Starts at 4:30 pm. Come out and support the team!
Williamston Fall 2024 Showcase Champions

It’s a fantastic day to be a Powers Charger! The boys' varsity soccer team ended the day with two more victories. This morning, they defeated Mason, and later secured an exciting win with a penalty shootout against Grosse Ile. It was a total team effort throughout. Leo Stravato saved two penalty kicks in the shootout, while Leo, Reagan Cameron, Logan Johnson, and Mason Mathers all scored their shots, leading the team to victory as Champions of the Williamston Fall 2024 Showcase!
POWERS V.SOCCER IMPROVED WITH WIN OVER WESTERN

The Powers varsity soccer team improved their record to 4-2-0 with a solid 3-1 victory at Bay City Western. Senior Leo Stravato was the standout performer, securing his third hat trick of the season. Stravato's goals included two penalty kicks.
Bay City Western initially took the lead with a penalty kick goal in the first half. However, Stravato responded swiftly, scoring a goal and then converting a penalty kick to put Powers ahead. He added another penalty kick in the second half to seal the win. The defense played a crucial role, effectively containing Bay City Western's offense and ensuring the victory.
The team’s next challenge is an away game at Mt. Pleasant on Monday, September 9th, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
POWERS 2 - OXFORD 3

Powers Varsity soccer faced a narrow 2-3 defeat against Oxford last night in a highly competitive match. Oxford came in undefeated and ranked #7 in Division 1 with Powers ranked #4 in Division 3.
Powers took the opening lead with a goal from Powers Senior Leo Stravato, who expertly placed a drop shot over Oxford's goalkeeper. Oxford then scored twice, including a penalty kick, before Stravato equalized with a PK of his own, making it 2-2 at halftime.
Oxford regained the lead early in the second half with a header goal off a corner kick. The rest of the match saw both teams playing strong defense, with no further goals scored. Powers, now 3-2-0 on the season, will quickly need to refocus for their next game today (Wed., Sept. 4, 2024) at Bay City Western, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 pm.
POWERS DOMINATES MIDLAND IN SVL MATCH

The Powers varsity soccer team kicked off SVL play with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Midland Chemics. Dominating possession throughout the game, the Chargers showcased their skill and determination, with Senior Leo Stravato delivering a standout performance by scoring all four goals.
The first half saw both teams level at 1-1, each converting a penalty kick. However, the second half was all Powers, as Stravato's three-goal surge mid-way through sealed the win.
Next up for Powers, a challenging match against the undefeated Oxford Wildcats, ranked #7 in Division 1 and currently 5-0-1 on the season. The game is set for Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 7:15 pm.

Powers Varsity Soccer falls to NDP

Powers 0 – Notre Dame Prep 1
Last night’s match at Atwood Stadium was a thrilling encounter between two undefeated Division 3 teams. Despite a strong performance, our varsity soccer team fell to Notre Dame Prep, the top-ranked team in the division.
The game was evenly contested, with the first half ending 0-0. The second half saw similar tight play until Notre Dame Prep managed to score at the 28:30 mark, securing the only goal of the match. Powers fought valiantly to find an equalizer but couldn’t break through.
It was a hard-fought game by both teams. Our next challenge is at Midland High on Wednesday, August 28th, at 6 pm. Come out and support us!
POWERS VARSITY TAKES DOWN FENTON

It was a perfect evening for soccer as the Chargers varsity squad decisively shutout the Fenton Tigers. Early in the match, Junior Grant Roberts found the back of the net off a Powers corner kick concluding the first half scoring.
Second half scoring began with Senior Leo Stravato striking from the left and catching the inside of the right post to put the Chargers up 2-0. Stravato again scored mid-way through the second by finishing on a PK and ending Powers' scoring for the day.
The Charges defense was strong throughout the match, continually killing off Fenton’s offensive attack. Applying pressure late, the Tigers were awarded a PK off a defensive foul in the box. The Tigers were looking to put up a late score, but senior keeper Armando Lopez was up for the challenge and made an outstanding save to preserve the shutout!
Great effort boys! Next up Notre Dame Prep Monday, August 26th at Atwood Stadium.
PCHS BOYS VARSITY SOCCER START WITH A WIN

Great win by the boys at the Vehicle City Soccer Classic to open up the 2024 season! The game featured sunshine mixed with heavy rain at times.
Elk Rapids opened up the scoring in the first half with a corner kick goal. The kick was headed into the crossbar which deflected back deep in the box to an Elk Rapids player who scored by redirecting off a players back. Powers countered late in the first half. Senior Leo Stravato began his 3 goal performance on the day with a successful PK.
The second half opened with Sophomore Mason Mather flying in to score from the left side of the net. Then, Leo Stavato scored his second goal with some beautiful passing that began with a Grant Robert’s cross through the goal mouth to Koen Hernandez who fed Stavato for the goal. Pretty soccer! Powers scoring ended with a free kick goal from by Stravato from 25 yards out! Awesome shot! Elk Rapids managed two late goals but Powers was able to hang on for the win. Great job by all the boys on the team! It was a total team effort. Next up Thursday vs. Fenton Tigers at Fenton.
