Chargers dominate on the road vs Defending State Champions
Updated on 12/16/2024
The Chargers (1-0) traveled to Ypsilanti to take on the defending Division 3 state champions Arbor Prep. After a slow start to the game the Chargers opened the lead up 27-9 at halftime behind a great defensive effort.
“I thought our effort was there early on but we were moving really fast, we just need to slow down and be more disciplined in our approach and I think we did that in the second half.” - Coach Trevithick
Powers did just that coming out in the second half outscoring the Gators 23-11 ultimately finishing the contest off with a hard fought victory 68-25. Despite what the scoreboard says Coach Trevithick credited the defending champs for acting like it.
“That group is really banged up right now and they came out and gave us all they could with what they had. Scott and his staff do an incredible job of getting their kids to play hard and when they get back healthy they’ll cause a lot of problems for people. We played well enough to win tonight, but glad we faced them in December because Arbor Prep is all about March.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers (2-0) were led in scoring by Sophomore Bella Harley with 18 points followed by Paige Ringwelski with 16. The Chargers are off until Saturday where they’ll play a top 10 match up with #9 Ferndale (2-0).
Powers Girl's Basketball open with Big Road Win!
Updated on 12/16/2024
The Powers Catholic Girl’s Varsity Basketball team opened their season with a big road win against Clarkston High School. With a 62-55 victory the Chargers were paced in scoring by Junior Kendyl Smith with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Freshman Evah Smith made her debut for the Chargers with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Paige Ringwelski helped contribute 10 points for the Chargers.
“I thought we had a good night overall. Clarkston is a tough opponent and they’re going to win a lot of games this season. Aaron does a great job with his team and had them prepared to compete. I just think tonight we were fortunate to make more shots.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers shot the ball well in deed going 47.2% from the field along with 41% from deep. The real number though was going 18-22 from the free throw line.
“I think the difference in this game was our ability to get to the line and convert. Shooting over 80% from the free throw line made a huge difference as we were able to keep a lead late into the game by stepping up and knocking down free throws.” - Coach Trevithick
Powers returns to action on Tuesday December 10 @ Ypsilanti Arbor Prep.
