Powers Varsity soccer faced a narrow 2-3 defeat against Oxford last night in a highly competitive match. Oxford came in undefeated and ranked #7 in Division 1 with Powers ranked #4 in Division 3.
Powers took the opening lead with a goal from Powers Senior Leo Stravato, who expertly placed a drop shot over Oxford's goalkeeper. Oxford then scored twice, including a penalty kick, before Stravato equalized with a PK of his own, making it 2-2 at halftime.
Oxford regained the lead early in the second half with a header goal off a corner kick. The rest of the match saw both teams playing strong defense, with no further goals scored. Powers, now 3-2-0 on the season, will quickly need to refocus for their next game today (Wed., Sept. 4, 2024) at Bay City Western, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 pm.
