The varsity girls basketball team took on the Wolves of Genesee High School at Goggins Fieldhouse on Friday evening. The Chargers opened the scoring by leading 22-7 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 43-22 at the end of the half. The 3rd quarter would see the lead extend beyond 40 as the final score settled at 74-37 in favor of the Chargers (2-0). Powers Catholic had balanced scoring across the board but were led by Senior, Alexcis Parker (26), Freshman Paige Ringwelski (14) and Senior Makenna Pobocik (13) points respectfully. Once again Coach Trevithick gave credit to his defense and urgency for the victory.
“I thought tonight we came out to prove a point, not just to Genesee but to ourselves that we are going to play with urgency, intensity and competitive integrity. The girls gave all they had and turned defense into offense with our transition. I thought we did a good job shutting down their best player trying to limit her touches and make her play a stressful 32 minutes of basketball. Overall, very proud of how our girls responded to their opportunities to compete tonight. Looking forward to building on this!” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday December 6 at 5:30pm when they face off against Lapeer in the middle game of a triple header with the Lightning.
