PCHS Girls' Varsity Basketball vs. Lapeer

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team hosted Lapeer on Tuesday night at Goggins Fieldhouse at Powers Catholic High School.  In a back and forth contest Powers Catholic saw a 7-point victory over the visiting Lightning 38-31.  The story lines would show that the defense of the Chargers was at an elite level, forcing 48 total turnovers and holding Lapeer to single digits in 3 of the 4 quarters of play.  However, the offense struggled to score, shooting only 18% from the floor for the game.  A career night from Senior Alexcis Parker lifted the Chargers to victory.

“Alexcis was really good this evening, she showed poise, patience and urgency when needed.  I’m not quite sure what the school record is but her 13 steals have to be close.  Our defense forced so many turnovers and I’m so proud of how they played as a unit.  To do what we did tonight is a very difficult thing to do, win while shooting that percentage is hard.  It’s really fun to see how they competed.” - Coach Ryan Trevithick

Parker finished the night with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists leading a second career triple double.  This was followed up by 8 points and 11 steals by Junior Kyleen Bradow.  A short handed roster left the Chargers searching for energy, but Coach Trevithick found no faults with the effort of their 7.

“We were missing a bunch of kids tonight, and this team is so connected and we depend on each other so much that we all felt that.  To play with 7 and know that your rotations will change and the familiarity with the game will change can hold you back a lot from growth.  Tonight however we used it as our reason for growth rather than our excuse for not.  Obviously we want all our athletes with us tonight but these 7 competed their tales off to help us come away with the win” - Coach Ryan Trevithick

The Chargers return to action on Friday December 9 at Goggins Fieldhouse as they host the Port Huron Big Reds in a non-conference game.  JV tips at 5:30pm with Varsity following at 7:00pm.
