Lansing Catholic defeats Lady Chargers in Bishop Cup Semi-Finals

The Powers Catholic Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Lansing for their first road contest of the season to take on the host school Lansing Catholic High School in the semi-final of the Bishop’s Cup tournament hosted by the Lansing Diocese.  The Chargers opened the scoring on a fast break layup by Senior Makenna Pobocik but after that Lansing Catholic took charge and led the remainder of the game defeating the Chargers 60-25.

“When you start off slow and miss some easy looks early every possession becomes stressed and the defense has to adapt, we took too many chances, lost our discipline and didn’t execute well enough to win.  Credit to Lansing Catholic they are well-coached and methodical about how they play and are very successful for a reason.  I thought our girls played hard but it wasn’t enough to go down so early and come back.  We’ll bounce back though.” - Coach Trevithick

Senior Alexcis Parker led the way for the Chargers with 12 points and 10 rebounds however, the Chargers finished shooting 18% from the floor while shooting 8% in the first half.  The lack of shooting didn’t deter Coach Trevithick’s feelings on some of the energy provided throughout.

“I thought we generated some good looks late, but early on we forced to much because we were honestly trying to hard without a focused objective.  Once we settled down we were much better.  Brianna (Krampe), and Ky (Bradow) gave us some huge minutes and a ton of energy tonight and I’m proud of them to step in and play the way they did, it was big for us!” - Coach Trevithick

The Chargers take on Lumen Christi in the consolation game on Wednesday December 28 @ 10:30am.
