Lady Chargers win over Lumen Christi 52-40

Lansing Catholic High School -

Not even 24 hours after competing in the semi-final of the Bishop’s Cup tournament hosted by Lansing Catholic High School, the Chargers girls’ varsity basketball team got a big bounce back win against Jackson Lumen Christi 52-40.  Leading the charge were Senior guards, Alexcis Parker and Makenna Pobocik, and Coach Trevithick was convinced, experience won out.

“Our Seniors struggled early on in this contest and in past years they would have found ways to force or to defer their moment to others.  Not tonight, they stepped up and showed out in a big way.  Every once in a while you need your seniors when your backs are against the wall and after losing our last two to good teams, we needed to bounce back and we did that.  Again our energy and effort was a key to our success tonight but our seniors carried a heavy burden and delivered.”

Parker finished with 26 points 20 rebounds and 7 steals while Pobocik finished with 10 points going 7-8 down the stretch from the FT line to clinch the game.  The stat sheet showed lopsided in the scoring column but there was balance all over according to Trevithick.

“The stat sheet will show the seniors dominated the scoring but Ali (Anderson) played huge in the second half and showed her real growth in her development, and Brianna Krampe and Kyleen Bradow were huge for us off the bench once again.  The ability to win the rebounding battle, TO battle and FT contest were the difference and as a group we stepped up to the challenge.”

The Chargers move to 5-2 on the year heading into the annual rivalry matchup with cross-town rival Flushing on Wednesday January 4 @ 7:00pm at Flushing High School.
