Powers Catholic falls to Flushing on the road

Wednesday evening the Powers Catholic Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Flushing to take on the cross town rival Raiders.  The contest came down to the final possession with the Chargers falling to the host Raiders 46-43.  In a back and forth game, the Chargers took a halftime lead of 23-10 into the locker room.  However, a determined Flushing Raider team didn’t go quietly and flipped all momentum to the Raider sideline outscoring the Chargers’ 26-9 in the final quarter.

“Tonight was disappointed and there’s a lot of kids in that locker room that are upset at a lot of different things.  I think we showed a lot of competitive integrity but we lacked the intelligence in key moments of this game and that lies on me.  I need to make sure that our team is better prepared to close out basketball games then we did this evening.  We’ll grow from this, I’ll grow from this and we will ultimately be a better team for this game.  A lot of credit goes to Flushing for taking us out of rhythm and refusing to quit even down late.  We have to move on and be a gold fish as we have a determined Arthur Hill team coming to our place to resume conference play Friday.”

The Chargers showed balanced scoring in the column as Senior Alexcis Parker scored 10, Senior Makenna Pobocik scored 9 and Freshman Paige Ringwelski scored 8.  The Powers Catholic girls’ basketball program returns to the floor Friday night in a varsity only contest against the visiting Lumberjacks of Saginaw Arthur Hill.  Tip off is set for 7:00pm.
