The Girls’ Basketball program hit the road for the trip north to Mt. Pleasant to take on the Oilers in a Saginaw Valley League matchup on Friday evening. The Chargers came out of the gate hot and never looked back leading wire-wire and finishing with a 45-31 victory over the host. Coach Trevithick credited his team with providing their own energy in a hostile environment.
“All the credit goes to these girls tonight as they were their own eco-system of energy and effort. They consistently brought it play after play and we were able to do some great things tonight and it all started from the minute they stepped onto the floor. So proud of this group and their growth!” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers were paced in scoring by Senior Alexcis Parker with 16 points and Junior Ali Anderson with 10. The Chargers held Mt Pleasant to 25% shooting from the field and it was the defensive urgency that Coach Trevithick said changed the outcome.
“We’ve been working really hard lately on our defensive urgency and tonight they played desperate and it showed. We were able to get everyone in, and they all played the tails off. We even got to see some special packages and lineups we wanted to see and the girls really responded well to it. I’m excited to get back into the gym next week and clean up some areas we are deficient but overall a ton of great things can come from this game.”
The Chargers record moves to 7-4 (2-1) as they prepare to return to Goggins Fieldhouse to host Shrine Catholic of Royal Oak on Wednesday January 18. Tip off is scheduled for JV at 5:30pm followed by Varsity at 7:00pm.
