In a game that featured 10 different lead changes and runs by both teams, the Powers Catholic Girls’ Varsity Basketball team came out victorious 58-56 on a Senior Makenna Pobocik lay-up with :10 remaining in the contest. Senior Alexcis Parker forced a turnover with :06 left picked up by Junior Grace Cameron to seal the victory for Chargers.
“I’m so proud of our team, so much adversity and so much growth. The ability to grow comes from the ability to sustain darkness, and tonight as a team we choose to be planted and not buried. These kids keep showing up and coming to work every day. It was a fun game to be a part of, tonight we prevailed!” - Coach Trevithick
Chargers were led in scoring by Pobocik with 19 points and Parker with 13 points. Parker finished with a double double of 13 points 12 rebounds and 7 steals, while Freshman Paige Ringwelski added 12 points Junior Ali Anderson 9 points and Junior Kyleen Bradow 5 points.
In a game that the Chargers lost the turnover and rebounding battles, the relentless effort proved too much for the host Trojans on Friday night.
“Our kids found a way to win! We’ve battled in the past with some tight games and that has given us so much experience to figure out a way to win games. The mindset has shifted and this team has found ways to get the job done. This game was won well before we played as we had a great week of practice by everyone preparing for this and to get two wins this week because of their hard work is just icing on the cake. Excited to continue to get better.” - Coach Trevithick
The Chargers will play host to a 3-game home stand at Goggins Fieldhouse starting with Tuesday January 24 when they Host Bay City Central. Game is set to tip off at 7:00pm
