Powers Catholic Girl's Basketball Sweep Rival Davison

On a night that recognized amazing women battling Breast Cancer and raising awareness to the disease; the girls’ basketball team proved too much for the visiting Davison Cardinals in a SVL Conference matchup at Goggins Fieldhouse Tuesday Night.  Leading wire-wire the Chargers took control in the first half on the back of a 22-7 2nd quarter taking a 34-12 lead into the locker room.

Juniors Ali Anderson and Grace Cameron led the Chargers in the first half scoring 8 and 7 points respectfully.  Insert the seniors to close the door in the second half as Seniors, Alexcis Parker and Makenna Pobocik scored 16 second half points to pace the varsity in a 57-41 victory.

“I thought our defensive intensity out of the gate was a huge factor.  We weren’t perfect and gave up some openings, but quickly shut it down and cleaned the rebounds.  Proud of the effort of the girls and the entire roster.  Everyone stepped on the floor tonight and they all gave their all.  They were playing for that certain person they wanted to represent tonight and it showed out.  Happy for our girls to get this win over a rival in Davison.”

Davison didn’t go quietly as they came out of the halftime locker room with urgency and intensity going on a quick 8-0 run to start the half.  The Chargers would respond back and eventually regain the lead and push it back to a manageable level.

“A lot of credit to Davison for not quitting and playing hard.  She does a great job of getting them to play hard and fortunately, we were able to sustain that storm and find a way to get the win tonight.  Can’t say enough about this group and how they continue to show up every day and fight for each other.  Proud of them!”

Alexcis Parker finished with 15 points and Makenna Pobocik with 10.  The Chargers return to action this Friday as they head on the road for a the first of four consecutive road SVL contests as they tip at Midland HS at 7:00pm.
