PCAT Girls Basketball Takes Home Opener

The season opener for the Powers Girls’ Basketball Teams could not have started off better.  With all three teams in action the Chargers took victories over Lapeer (Freshman), and Davison last night in non-conference match ups in front of a supportive crowd at Powers Catholic High School.

The Chargers were led in scoring by sophomore Kendyl Smith (21), Senior Amaya Smith (12) and Sophomore Paige Ringwelski (10).  Scoring was coming quick and often as the Chargers were victorious 73-41 on the night.

“I thought our team played extremely hard tonight and did a lot of good things improving from our scrimmages this pre-season.  All the girls got to contribute tonight which is great because in our league you don’t have that opportunity each and every night.”

The Chargers posted and impressive 19 assists on 27 made field goals, while only committing 15 turnovers.  The defense was stifling forcing 27 Davison turnovers leading to 21 points off those turnovers.

“Our defense brought a lot of energy and effort tonight and we were opportunistic with our possessions.  Our kids compete hard every day in practice so to see them have the opportunity to show that to their families and fans was fun for us.  Tonight was a great team win for our program, especially at all 3-levels tonight we competed!”

Next up the Chargers face Royal Oak Shrine Catholic with JV @ 5:30 and Varsity @ 7:00pm.
