Girls Basketball Defend Home Court In Program Sweep!

On a cold night in Goggins Fieldhouse, the Powers Catholic Girls’ Varsity Basketball team defeated the visiting Hornets of New Lothrop 68-39.  In a high transition based game early on the Chargers jumped out to a 35-18 halftime lead behind 6 first half 3’s.  The hot shooting continued out of the locker room as the Chargers were able to score 21 points in the 3rd quarter led by Senior Amaya Smith (9) and Senior Grace Cameron (4) points in the quarter.

The Chargers were paced in scoring by Amaya Smith with 22 points and Sophomore Kendyl Smith with 17.  The defensive effort led by Cameron, Smith and Sophomore Aria Dottery led to 13 points off turnovers and forced 20 New Lothrop turnovers.

“Tonight our defense stood tall against a good team.  New Lothrop is really dangerous in transition, so we wanted to limit that and I felt we did a good job to mitigate the damage from that part of the game.  Proud of the effort our girls played with tonight and put a tough team away on a back to back is impressive.” - Coach Trevithick

The Chargers improve to 8-1 with the win while New Lothrop falls to 6-3.  The Chargers return to action on January 23 on the road in SVL action at Bay City Central.  Varsity tip off is at 7:00pm.
