On a Tuesday night in the Saginaw Valley League, the Powers Catholic Chargers (11-1) took to the road against the Davison Cardinals. The Chargers looking to keep their momentum going in conference faced off with the Cardinals for the second time this season after an earlier victory 73-41.
The Chargers would start off quick by jumping out to a 17-8 first quarter lead behind 11 first quarter points from Sophomore Kendyl Smith. After a defensive second quarter holding Davison to only 5 points the Chargers took a 35-13 lead into the locker room at intermission. The second half started out quick with the Chargers getting 4 straight buckets while shutting out the Cardinals leading to a quick 10-0 run to start the quarter and the Chargers never looked back. Powers Catholic defeated Davison 65-31 improving their record to 11-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Saginaw Valley.
“Tonight this game was about energy and effort on the road. Our defense was solid and our seniors really stepped up big for us. We depended heavily on our starters tonight to get us in rhythm and they did that. I’m really proud of how well our kids played tonight.” - Coach Trevithick
Kendyl Smith scored 16 while senior Kyleen Bradow contributed 13 on the night. The Chargers had a total of 21 assists on the evening led by Senior Grace Cameron while forcing 25 Davison turnovers.
The Chargers return to action at Goggins Fieldhouse on Friday against SVL foe the Midland Chemics (6-7). Triple header is set to tip off at 4:00pm for freshman followed by JV (5:30pm) and Varsity (7:00pm).
