Powers Catholic Advances to Regional Championship Game

Powers Catholic Girls’ Basketball wasted no time getting started on Monday night in a Regional Semi-Final contest against the host Alma Panthers.  A blistering start saw the Chargers take a 28-13 lead after the first quarter.

The Chargers dropped the second quarter to the Panthers 10-15 after some early foul trouble but would leave no doubt as the 3rd quarter saw Powers open a 60-29 lead going into the final quarter.  Ultimately leading to a Charger victory and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the Division 2 tournament.

Sophomore Kendyl Smith led the Chargers in scoring with 26 points on 6-7 shooting from behind the arc.  Senior Grace Cameron led the assist column with a career high 9 assists and 8 rebounds while, Sophomore Paige Ringwelski scored 19 and Senior Ali Anderson added 10.

The Chargers head back to Alma for the Regional Championship on Wednesday vs Freeland who knocked off Frankenmuth on the other side of the bracket.

“I’m so proud of our kids!  It’s amazing how much they have come together and found each other.  We had 23 assists tonight and the ball really moved.  I thought Grace responded well to not being guarded by finding her teammates and putting them in position to score.  Tonight we let our defense talk and combined with some huge play from our post players we are able to play another day!  Proud of our kids” - Coach Trevithick

Tip off on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:00pm on Wednesday March 11, 2024 @ Alma High School.
