Powers defeated Lake Fenton 5-2 on Saturday at Whaley Park in Chargers first-round game in the Greater Flint Tournament. Three pitchers—Isaac Sturgess, Jack Dawley, and Joe Vermette— combined to limit the Blue Devils to three hits and one earned run.
Grant Garman, Gavin Darling, Connor Kelly, and Dawley each delivered RBI singles to pace the offense. Pitching and defense saved the day for Powers on a miserable, cold, damp day for baseball. Players on both teams seemed challenged to track the ball in the mid-April, late-afternoon gloom. But a win is a win for the 8-2 Chargers.
On Monday, Powers makes the semiannual trek to Mt. Pleasant with hopes to slip past the always-tough Oilers.
