The Charger varsity baseball team defeated the Oilers by the scores of 13-4 and 6-2 behind exceptional pitching, offense, and errorless defense: best overall Powers Catholic Baseball in 2023.
Luke Dupuis threw five strong innings in game one, allowing only four hits. Fischer Hendershot made his ‘23 mound debut by closing the door over the final two frames. The Charger offense delivered a whopping 17 hits, led by Nik Stimac (3 hits/2 RBI’s); Gavin Darling (3 hits/1RBI); Jack Dawley and Elijah Britton, 2 hits apiece; and Alex Photiou drilled an RBI single to collect his first varsity hit. A seven-run third inning put Powers in command.
In game two, Isaac Sturgess tossed 4.2 innings of four-hit ball, yielding one earned run. Then, Joe Vermette picked up his third save of the young season to keep the Oilers at bay. The Powers offense scored two runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to control how the game was played. Darling, Dawley, and Connor Kelly each smacked a pair of hits.
Nice wins, however, there is no time to savor victory because Powers hosts defending SVL Champion, Grand Blanc on Thursday. Back to work, Chargers!
