Powers Catholic Varsity Baseball won two tightly contested games at Davison in SVL action Monday. Three-run rallies in the third inning of game one, and fourth inning of game two provided the margins of victory. But the pitching of Fischer Hendershot (6.1 innings; no earned runs) and Connor Kelly delivering a two-out save were key. Kelly drove in a run, and Nik Stimac drilled a clutch two-out double for Powers. Isaac Sturgess had a pair of hits.
Kelly started on the mound in the nightcap, pitching four no-hit innings with six strikeouts. Luke Dupuis closed in the bottom of the fifth without allowing a hit for a combined no-hitter. The game was ruled official after five innings due to darkness. The big hit came from a two-out bases-loaded single by the aforementioned Sturgess. The Chargers third run came home on a wild pitch.
Fifth-ranked Powers moves to 16-3-1 overall (10-3-1 in the SVL). This Thursday, the Chargers welcome the current number one team in the state, Bay City Western (19-0), for an SVL showdown starting at 4 pm.
