SVL XC Championships

The men's cross county team had their best race of the season at the Saginaw Valley Championships on Wednesday October 18th. The men's team finished 2nd overall which ties the best all time finish in the Saginaw Valley League. Bay City Western scored a total of 44 points to take the conference title, edging out Powers by 8 points.
The Chargers were led by David Murphy and Bryce Gross who finished 3rd and 4th overall with times of 15:53.44 and 15:56.02. Peter Huey finished 11th overall, Sophomore Caleb Carignan finished 15th overa ll and senior Kieran Murphy finished the scoring for the Chargers in 19th.
An amazing 13 Chargers ran career best times.
Murphy and Gross earned first team All SVL honors with Huey making 2nd team.
Murphy moved up to 10th all time and Gross cracked the all time list running the 12th best time in school history. Charger legend Chase Dietrich was knocked off the top 20 all time. Gross moved up to number 2 on the sophomore list and Caleb Carignan clocked in at 7th on the Sophomore all time list.

Overall an amazing 13 Chargers ran their season best times.
As a group the Chargers ran the 4th fastest team time in school history. They trail only the 1999, 2002 and 2003 state meet performances. Teams which finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the state finals.

The women's team had the best race of their season and moved up two places from their projected finish to take 6th overall. Grace Murphy led the Chargers with a 9th place finish which earned 2nd team all conference honors.
Seniors Aerika Pertler and Maggie Gilin finished 37th and 39th overall. They were quickly followed by Grace Evanoff and Kate Fulton in 47th and 48th.
The Chargers will now gear up for the Regional Championships where they will look to place in the top 3 and qualify for the State Championships.
PCHS Cross Country Take 2nd in Duane Raffin Festival of Races

The Chargers Cross Country team continued to build on their solid season with a second place finish at the 55th Annual Duane Raffin Festival of Races hosted by Holly High School.
The men's finished 2nd behind Marshall which is ranked top 5 in the State. David Murphy continued to lead the Chargers with a 5th place finish. Bryce Gross was 10th while Peter Huey and Kieran Murphy were also medalists with 15th and 23rd place finishes. Caleb Carignan finished the scoring for the Chargers with a 30th place finish.
On the women's side the Chargers finished 8th in the 15 team field. Grace Murphy led the Chargers with a 16th place finish.

The Chargers are off until Saturday the 23rd when they will be racing at Delta College.
SVL MATCH #1 Results- Cross Country

The men's cross country team picked up a win against the Saginaw Valley South on Tuesday. The men scored 31 points to out sprint league rival Davison by 15 points. Grand Blanc finished 3rd with Lapeer in 4th.
David Murphy continued to pace the Chargers with a runner up finished but the key to the Charger's victory was the 4-5 finish by Bryce Gross and Peter Huey. Kieran Murphy was 9th and Caleb Carignan finished 11th to complete the scoring for the Chargers.
Peter Huey and Max Crumm posted personal best times on the wet and muddy course.
The Women's team continued to show steady improvement and was led by Junior Grace Murphy who cracked the top 10 with an 8th place finish overall. As a team the Chargers finished 4th.
Sophomore Chloe Wood posted a personal best time as she took a big 20 seconds off her prior record.

The cross country team is back in action on Saturday at the prestigious Holly Invitational.
Cross Country take on Northwood Invitational

The men's and women's cross country had a great day at the Northwood invitational on Saturday September 9th.
The men's team finished 5th in the very strong 17 team field. Powers edged Saginaw Valley rival Heritage High School by 21 points. Powers and Heritage are expected to be two of the top tier teams in the SVL this fall.
David Murphy led the Chargers with a 4th place finish in a time of 16:23 which is just 3 seconds off his all time personal record. Sophomore Bryce Gross continued his hot start to the season with a personal best performance of 16:57 which was also his first time under the 17 minute barrier.
Seniors Peter Huey and Kieran Murphy finished 46th and 48th while sophomore Caleb Carignan finished 62nd to complete the scoring for the Chargers.
Overall it was a great day for the Chargers as 8 athletes recorded their personal best times.
The Powers women's team finished 12th in the field while competing without several key contributors. Grace Evanoff, Maggie Gilin and Aerike Pertler packed it up and finished in places 59, 60 and 62. Brianna Krampe and Kakayla Stewart finished in 82nd nd 87th to complete the scoring for the Chargers.

The cross country team will be back in action on Tuesday September 12 to open up the Saginaw Valley portion of the schedule at Warner-Rolland Middle School in Lapeer.

Cross Country takes 1st and 3rd in Corunna Early Bird Invitational

MALES- The Chargers Harriers started out the 2023 Cross Country season on the same trajectory that they ended the 2023 track season. With a near record 10 Chargers posting sub 5 minute miles expectations were high for the 2023 cross country season. The Chargers opened up the season at the Corunna Early Bird Invitational where they met their goal and emerged with a 1st place finish over regional rival Clio.
David Murphy was the individual runner up and led a trio of Chargers in the top 10. Sophomore Bryce Gross was 4th overall and senior Peter Huey placed 8th. Sophomore Caleb Carignan was 14th and Senior Kieran Murphy finished 18th to complete the scoring for the Chargers.

FEMALES- The Chargers Cross Country Women started out their 2023 campaign with a third place finish at the Corunna Early Bird Invitational. Junior Grace Murphy led the Chargers with an 8th place finish. Senior Brianna Krampe was the 2nd finisher for the Chargers in 27th place and was quickly followed by the senior trio of Maggie Gilin, Aerika Pertler and Kate Fulton in places 29-31.

Greater Flint Championships Results

The men's cross county team finished 2nd at the Greater Flint Championships on Saturday October 9th. The men's team totaled 80 points. David Murphy finished 3rd overall and Bryce Gross was 7th overall. Both Murphy and Gross earned 1st team honors. Peter Huey finished 14th overall to earn 2nd team honors. Kieran Murphy and Caleb Carignan finished 25th and 31st overall.
Spencer Philpotts ran a personal best time of 18:12 and Max Crum broke into the 19s for the first time with a personal best of 19:51.
The women's team finished 8th overall. Grace Murphy was the top finisher in 37th overall. Grace Evanoff was the 2nd Charger across the line in 49th.
On the women's side Aerika Pertler continued her torrid season with a big personal best time of 21:45.

SVL SOUTH TITLE RESULTS

The men's cross country team wrapped up the Saginaw Valley South title yesterday at the Genesee County Fairgrounds. The men's team tallied a total of 30 points to edge Davison by 10.
David Murphy notched a new personal record time of 16:09.58 to take runner up honors. He was closely followed by Bryce Gross in 3rd.
Peter Huey was 5th, Caleb Cardigan was 9th and Keiran Murphy was 11th.
Overall it was a banner day for the Chargers as 13 athletes ran career best times!
On the women's side the Chargers finished 4th by they narrowed the gap with Lapeer to 1 point. GRace Murphy finished 5th overall. Aerika Pertler, Grace Evanoff and Makayla Stewart finished 21, 22 and 23rd over all and Brianna Krampe completed the scoring for the Chargers in 31st place.
Domicella Ash, Grace Murphy, Makayla Stewart and Chloe Wood all ran personal best times!
