MHSAA FINALS SUMMARY

Flint Powers Catholic concluded the 2023 Girl’s Golf Season at the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals at The Meadows (Grand Valley State University). There were 18 teams and 106 golfers competing in the 2-day tournament. The Lady Chargers were competing in the 8th straight MHSAA Girl’s Golf Finals were paced by Lillee-Ann-Jacobs 174 (tied for 18th). MaKenna Hodorovich 195 (tied for 52nd) and Ali Anderson 208 (tied for 73rd).

Grand Rapids Catholic Central finished 1st with a team score of 673, twelve strokes better than runner-up Williamston. Macomb Lutheran North’s Lauren Timph 2-day total of 141 was the Division 3 medalist for the third year in a row. She finished one stroke behind 2020 Miss Golf Shannon Kennedy her freshman year. The Lady Chargers golf team qualified for the MHSAA State Finals at the Division 3 Regional #16 held at Pine River Country Club in Alma, MI. There were 10 teams and 54 golfers playing in the tournament. The 3 top teams in each Regional advance to the MHSAA State Finals.

Goodrich finished 1st with an impressive score of 347, Freeland finished 2nd with a score of 378 and Powers Catholic finished with a score of 379 to secure the last State Final spot. Lillee-Ann Jacobs fired an 83 to finish 4th earning a Top 5 medal. Ali Anderson 96 (tied for 11th), Maria Gavulic and MaKenna Hodorovich both shot 100 (tied for 16th) and Ava Begola 112 (tied for 29th) rounded out the scoring.

The Lady Chargers will compete in the MHSAA Finals 2-day tournament beginning on Friday, October 20th at the Meadows (GVSU) in Allendale, MI.

Saginaw Valley League Match #4

The Lady Chargers golf team wrapped up the SVL & regular season at the Fortress in Frankenmuth, MI. There were 10 teams and 58 golfers playing in the tournament. The team score of 377 earned Powers Catholic a 4th place finish. Lillee-Ann Jacobs fired an 80 (3rd place) and Maria Gavulic 86 (6th place) to lead the Chargers. Lillee-Ann & Maria both earned 1st Team SVL honors. MaKenna Hodorovich102 (tied for 23rd) and Ali Anderson 109 (tied for 34th) rounded out the scoring. MaKenna & Ali were name as SVL Honorable Mention participants.

Midland & Grand Blanc finished tied with a team score of 356. Midland claimed the final tournament victory using the tie breaker score of the 5th golfer. Sophia Lee, from Midland Dow, was the medalist with a score of 76.

Grand Blanc won the overall league championship and Sophia Lee was named the league’s Outstanding Female Golfer.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers will be the MHSAA Regional tournament on Wednesday, October 11th at the Pine River Country Club in Alma, MI.

Panther Invitational Summary

The Lady Chargers golf team competed in Panther Invitational at Pine River Country Club in Alma, MI. There were 12 teams and 67 golfers playing in the tournament. The team score of 397 landed the Powers Chargers in 4th place. Lillee-Ann Jacobs paced the Lady Chargers with a score of 83 (5th place), MaKenna Hodorovich 85 (7th place), and Maria Gavilac 87 (8th place). Yanna Lazaris 124 (51st place) and Kallie Lloyd-Jones 125 (52nd place) rounded out the scoring.

Williamston High School finished with a team score of 333, finished in first place 28 strokes better than runner-up Freeland Falcons. Williamston’s Nicole Schafer was the medalist with an outstanding score of 72, 8 strokes better than her cousin Averie Pumford from Freeland and her teammate Paige Radebach.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers will be the final Saginaw Valley League event (SVL Match #4) on Tuesday, October 3rd at the Fortress Golf Club in Frankenmuth, MI.

SVL MATCH #3 RESULTS

The Lady Chargers golf team competed in the Saginaw Valley League Match #3 at Davison Country Club in Davison, MI. There were 10 teams and 55 golfers playing in the tournament. The team score of 394 landed the Powers Chargers in 4th place. Maria Gavulic paced the Lady Chargers with a score of 90 (6th place), one stroke better than Lillee-Ann Jacobs’ 91 (7th place). Ali Anderson fired a 98 and MaKenna Hodorovich 115 completed the team scoring. Freshman Katie Costello played in her 1st varsity match in her hometown of Davison.

Grand Blanc High School finished with a team score of 351, finished in first place 26 strokes better than runner-up Midland Dow Chargers. Sophia Lee, from Midland Dow, was the medalist with a score of 78.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers will be the Panther Invitational on Monday, September 25th at the Pine River Country Club in Alma, MI.

Dick's Sporting Goods Invitational Summary

It was a perfect day for golf at the Glenbrier Golf Course in Perry, MI. The Powers Catholic Girl’s Golf Team had 3 golfers compete in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational. There were 16 teams and 93 golfers competing in the tournament this year.

Lillee-Ann Jacobs had the team best score of 93 (12th overall). Maria Gavulic and MaKenna Hodorovich each shot 107 (tied for 36th). South Lyon High School finished with a team score of 362, finished in first place three strokes better than runner-up Bath Fighting Bees. Anna Schaibly, from Bath, was the medalist with a score of 81.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers will be a Saginaw Valley League event on Tuesday, September 19th at the Davison Country Club in Davison, MI.

Weather ends SVL Match #2 Early

The Saginaw Valley League Match #2 at Bay County Golf Course in Essexville, MI was shortened because of thunderstorms. Only 3 golfers finished playing 18 holes. Lillee-Ann Jacobs was one of them and she shot a respectful 77. It was decided this match would not be completed or rescheduled at a later date. Maria Gavulic, MaKenna Hodorovich, Ali Anderson & Ava Begola woke up early to represent Powers Catholic High School but were unable to complete their rounds. When play was suspended Powers Catholic was in third place.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers will be the Dick's Sporting Goods Invitational on Friday, September 15th at the Glenbrier Golf Course in Perry, MI.

Patriot Cup Update

It was a perfect day for golf at the Fortress in Frankenmuth, MI. The Powers Catholic Girl’s Golf Team had 3 golfers compete in the Patriot Cup. There were 15 teams and 88 golfers competing in the tournament this year. Every year this tournament honors local First Responders and those who died on 9/11. All the golfers were born after 9/11.

Lillee-Ann Jacobs had the team best round firing a season low of 78 (tied for 7th) and earned a Top 10 medal. Maria Gavulic 97 (tied for 35th) and MaKenna Hodorovich 98 (tied for 38th) rounded out the scoring. Rochester High School finished with a team score of 309, finished in first place one stroke better than runner-up Rochester Adams. Laura Liu, from Rochester Adams, was the medalist firing one under par round of 71.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers will be a Saginaw Valley League event on Wednesday, September 6th at Bay County Golf Course in Essexville, MI.

Chargers Take 5th In Charger Invitational

The Powers Catholic Girl’s Golf Team finished in 5th place at the Charger Invitational played at the Flint Golf Club. There were 15 teams and 79 golfers competing in our tournament this year. Lillee-Ann Jacobs shot 86 and finished tied in 22 place. Maria Gavulic followed up her career best score in the last tournament with another career low score of 88 finishing in 28th place. Ali Anderson score of 93 was her career best. Sophomore MaKenna Hodorovich rounded out the scoring with a 96. Ava Begola, Kallie Lloyd-Jones and freshman Yanna Lazaris (playing in her 1st varsity tournament) were also able to participate in our tournament. The team score of 363, so far, is the lowest score of the season.

Cranbrook Kingswood finished, with a team score of 317, finished in first place one stroke better than runner-up Rochester High School. Mackenzie Behnke, from Cranbrook Kingswood, was the medalist firing a low score of 70.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers is the Patriot Cup on Thursday, August 31st at the Fortress in Frankenmuth, MI. Winner, winner chicken dinner!

Saginaw Valley League Match #1

The Powers Catholic Girl’s Golf Team finished in 5th place at the Saginaw Valley League first 18 hole match at Mueller's Valley View Golf Club in Saginaw, MI.

The SVL has 9 teams competing the Championship this year. Lillee-Ann Jacobs fired an 81 and finished 3rd overall. The three other Lady Charger golfers had their career best scores. MaKenna Hodorovich 91 (10th place), Maria Gavulic 95 (19th place) and Kallie Lloyd-Jones rounded out the scoring 129 (47th place).

Grand Blanc’s Golf Team finished first with a score of 337. Sadie Kondel of Grand Blanc was the medalist. She shot an impressive even par round of 72.

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers is our own Charger Invitational on Monday, August 28th at Flint Golf Club (Shotgun start at 1 PM). We would love to see some of our Powers Alumni at our tournament. Admission is free!

Greater Genesee County Tournament

The Lady Chargers finished tied for 4th place at the Greater Genesee County Tournament at the Flint Elks. Lillee-Ann Jacobs 87 was good enough to finish in the Top 10. Ali Anderson (99), Ava Begola (105) and MaKenna Hodorovick (108) contributed to the team score of 399. Oxford finished 1st with a score of 335. Sanora Kochan was the Medalist with a score of 80.

 

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers is Wednesday, August 23rd at Mueller's Valley View Golf Club in Saginaw, MI.

2023 Lober Classic

The 2023 Girl's Golf Season has started. The Lober Classic at Crystal Mountain was the first 2023 golf event. This 2-day event featured 33 teams & 208 golfers and was played on the Betsie Valley & Mountain Valley golf courses. Flint Powers Catholic had 3 golfers compete as individuals. Lillee-Ann Jacobs (Senior) had an impressive score of 165 and finished 15th overall. Maria Gavulic (Senior) finished tied for 85th shooting 199 and Makenna Hodorovich (Sophomore) finished tied for 118th with a score of 212.

 

The next scheduled event for the Lady Chargers should have been the Freeland Invitational, but this tournament was cancelled because of rain. On Monday, August 21st Powers Catholic will compete in the Genesee County Invitational at the Flint Elks.

FREELAND TOURNAMENT RESCHEDULED
