Powers Defeats Linden

The Chargers won their 3rd in a row Tuesday night defeating Linden by a score of 78-63. The Chargers led wire to wire and by double digits for a large portion of the game. Javontae Ross led the way with 17 points. Malachi Taylor and Isaac Sturgess added 15 points with Taylor grabbing 5 rebounds. Vincent Bates scored 11 points and snagged 6 steals and Connor Kelly scored 10 points and dished out 6 assists. The Chargers forced 24 Linden turnovers on the night.
The Chargers return home Thursday night for Senior night to take on Flushing.
Powers Defeats Flushing on Senior Night

The Chargers picked up their 4th win in a row Thursday night defeating Flushing 67-49. The Chargers got off to a slow start only leading by 2 at halftime before a 25-8 3rd quarter run opened things up. The defense led the way forcing 27 Flushing turnovers on what was an atypical poor shooting night. Connor Kelly led the way with 18 points. Javontae Ross added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Isaac Sturgess had another stat sheet stuffing game with 9 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. The Chargers honored their 4 seniors at the beginning of the game Elijah Britton, Malachi Taylor, Sergio Thomas Jr., and Joe Vermette. We thank them for all of their contributions to Charger basketball over the years and couldn't be any prouder of the men they have become.
The Chargers move on to district play next Wednesday at Durand to take on the winner of Brandon and Lake Fenton. The game will be played at 7:00.
Powers Wins on Back to Back Nights

The Chargers took care of business Friday night defeating Lapeer 75-61. The Chargers got off to a strong start by leading by 15 at half and never looking back. Malachi Taylor led the Chargers with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Connor Kelly and Javontae Ross both added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 rebounds respectively. Sergio Thomas Jr. came off the bench to add a season high 10 points. Isaac Sturgess stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 5 points 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Chargers followed that performance up with an even better performance Saturday night defeating Bay City Western 75-31. The Chargers had their best defensive performance of the year holding Western to 26% shooting and forcing 19 turnovers. The Chargers got off to a fiery start knocking in 6 first quarter 3 pointers and leading 29-9 after the first quarter. The strong play would continue and they would lead 52-15 at half. Isaac Sturgess led the Chargers with 14 points and 4 assists. Javontae Ross and Vincent Bates Jr. added 13 points with Ross adding 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Malachi Taylor would add 11 points and Elijah Britton 10 points on a combined 9 of 9 shooting.
The Chargers are back in action at Linden Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
Powers falls on the Road

The Chargers lost Tuesday night to Carman Ainsworth 101-58. Javontae Ross ped the Chargers with 15 points. Powers travels to Lapeer to take on the Lightning Friday

Powers Downs Midland

The Chargers knocked off the Chemics Friday night by a score of 73-51 behind one of their best defensive performances of the season. Isaac Sturgess led the Chargers with his 3rd double double of the season tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds. Vincent Bates also scored 12 points. Javontae Ross and Fischer Hendershot both scored 9 points with Ross adding 7 assists. Elijah Britton added 8 points off the bench. Powers had 20 assists on 28 made field goals and 12 players scored on the night.
The Chargers return to action Tuesday night at home to take on Grand Blanc.
Powers Plays Tough but Falls to Grand Blanc

The Chargers got off to a hot start Tuesday night but Grand Blanc runs to end the 2nd and 3rd Quarter proved to be enough. The Chargers fell by a final score of 72-54. Connor Kelly led the Chargers with 10 points. Vincent Bates added 9 points. Malachi Taylor and Javontae Ross both scored 8 points. Ross added 4 assists and Taylor 6 rebounds. Isaac Sturgess stuffed the stat sheet with 6 points, 7 assists and 5 steals.
The Chargers are back at home Friday night to face Bay City Western.
Powers Loses to Davison

The Chargers suffered a setback Tuesday 84-50. They were unable to overcome a hot shooting Davison team. Malachi Taylor and Connor Kelly led the Chargers with 12 points each.
The Chargers are back in action Friday night at home to take on Midland.
Powers defeats Genesee Christian

Powers Catholic knocked off the #1 ranked team in D4 Friday night in front of a packed house on Military Appreciation Night. Genesee Christian led by 7 at halftime before the Chargers came out to dominate the 3rd by a score of 19-9 and take a 3 point lead into the 4th. They would never trail again as they used a late 10-0 run to push the lead into double digits.
Connor Kelly led the Chargers with a career high 24 points and 7 rebounds. Javontae Ross added 19 points and 5 assists. Vincent Bates tallied 16 points and Isaac Sturgess stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Genesee Christian was led by Tyler Chapman who scored 32 points.
The Chargers face off against Davison at home on Tuesday night in a Girls/Boys Varsity double header.
Powers falls to Bay City Central

Powers lost a tightly contested game on the road Tuesday by a score of 74-69. The Chargers led by 6 at half but couldn't corral the hot shooting Wolves. Javontae Ross led the Chargers with 24 points. Isaac Sturgess added 21 and Connor Kelly 10. Powers returns home Friday night to take on Genesee Christian for Military Appreciation Night.
Powers Catholic Defeats Flint Southwestern

Powers defeated Flint Friday night by a score of 76-64. The Chargers got off to a strong start leading 24-14 and leading the rest of the way. 11 Chargers found their way into the scoring column in what was a total team effort. Powers shared the ball tremendously with 25 assists on 31 made field goals. They also forced 19 Jaguar turnovers on the night. Isaac Sturgess led the way with 15 points and 6 assists. Javontae Ross had 11 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Connor Kelly and Vincent Bates had 11 each as well.
Powers travels to face Bay City Central on Tuesday.
Big win for Powers over Freeland- Boys Basketball

32 minutes was not enough as the Chargers needed overtime to outlast Freeland. Powers led 38-27 at half but Freeland opened up the 2nd half with a 15-5 run to draw within one. Freshman Tristan Comer led the way defensively for the Falcons coming up with some huge blocks. Wilson Huckaby scored a layup with 43 seconds left to draw even and Javontae Ross's shot came up just short to win. However, the Chargers came out on fire in the overtime period led by Vincent Bates' defensive intensity. He would score 14 points on the night. Javontae Ross led the Chargers with a career high 25 points. Isaac Sturgess, Connor Kelly, and Omar Young scored 9 points each. Isaac added 8 assists.
Powers faces Flint Southwestern Friday at home in a game rescheduled from December.
Powers Wins Thriller over Mt. Pleasant

The Powers boys basketball team won 62-59 in front of a packed Goggins Fieldhouse. Connor Kelly hit a 3 with 10 seconds left to win the game. It was a back and forth game all night with no one able to gain more than a 7 point advantage. The Chargers led 28-25 at half thanks to a huge spark off the bench from sophomore Omar Young Jr. He came in in the middle of the 2nd quarter and hit back to back threes. Powers controlled the game much of the 2nd half before a late layup from the Oilers tied the game. The Chargers were able to execute in the hand and pick up a huge stop to seal the game.
Isaac Sturgess led Powers with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Vincent Bates added 13 points and Connor Kelly 11 points. The Chargers play 2022 State Semifinalist Freeland on Tuesday at home.
Powers falls to Saginaw High

The Chargers fell at home to a tough Trojans team 81-66 Tuesday night. Saginaw High used a hot shooting night where they converted on 11 3's to pull away in the end. The Chargers were led by Javontae Ross with 18 points and Vincent Bates with 14 points. Malachi Taylor chipped in 9 points off the bench. Powers returns to the court Friday to host Mount Pleasant.

Powers suffers a 81-57 setback to Beecher.
The Chargers fell Thursday night to a strong Bucs at home. Powers led 36-35 at halftime before a strong Beecher 2nd half allowed them to pull away. The Chargers were led by Javontae Ross with 13 points and Connor Kelly with 12 points. The boys return home on Tuesday to face Saginaw high.

Powers wins the Bishop's Cup

Powers defeated Lansing Catholic in the opening round 72-58. Powers got off to a 16-2 start and led by 25 in the 2nd quarter. Lansing Catholic continued to fight in the second half cutting the lead to 11 before a 9-0 run put the game out of reach. The Chargers forced 18 turnovers and had 19 offensive rebounds to help propel them to victory. Vincent Bates led the Chargers with 18 points. Malachi Taylor added 13 points and Isaac Sturgess had 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Powers followed up the win Tuesday with a win in the championship game over Father Gabriel Richard by a score of 53-52. Vincent Bates knocked in a free throw with 9 seconds remaining and Connor Kelly had a strong defensive play on the other end to seal the victory. Game 2 was more of a defensive battle with both teams struggling to take care of the ball. However, that was due to very strong defensive effort. Powers never trailed in the game and had 15 assists on 20 made field goals. The Chargers also forced 24 turnovers on the day. Javontae Ross led the Chargers with 13 points. Vincent Bates added 9 points and 5 steals and Connor Kelly stuffed the stat sheet with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Powerts returns to the floor January 5th at home to take on Beecher in a JV, Varsity double header.
Powers Boys Varsity Basketball win over Davison

The Chargers battled to a hard earned victory Friday night over rival Davison 63-56. Down after the 1st quarter, Powers poured in 21 points in the 2nd quarter to lead by 7 at the break. It was a back and forth battle in the 2nd half with Davison only down 3 with a minute left. Isaac Sturgess made 2 clutch free throws and Javontae Ross hit a layup to finish the game. The defensive effort was outstanding all night from everyone and I am extremely proud of the way the boys battled. Isaac Sturgess led Powers with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Javontae Ross added 16 points. Teon Armstrong led Davison with 26 points. The Chargers return home Tuesday to face Flint Southwestern.
