Boys Swim Season in 2022/2023

Updated on 08/27/2024

The Powers Catholic Boys Swim and Dive team started their season off on a hot note as they
faced off against Grand Blanc in a head to head contest that saw a number of best times to start
the year. Powers junior Will Gross would go on to set the pool record in the 100 Backstroke at a
53.05 which was also his personal best time and Powers junior Baylor Cicalo put on a strong
showing in the diving portion of the meet and would win the event for the Chargers in his first
competition. Other notable performances came from Sophomore Liam Seifert as he would win
both the 100 Fly and 500 Freestyle. The Chargers would go on to lose the meet but set the tone
with a number of outstanding individual performances.
In Powers second competition they would take on the team of Swartz Creek / Flushing in a
tough matchup that saw more best times! Junior Nate Fisher would get the meet started with a
best time and winning time in the 200 Freestyle of 1:56.24. Will Gross would also go on to break
his second pool record of the season in the 100 Backstroke with another incredible swim. The
Chargers would fall short in a very close meet by 7 points but not because of lack of effort.
The following two meets the team would hit the road and take on Bay City Central, Midland,
Saginaw Heritage, and Carman-Ainsworth. In these two meets Powers would continue to make
improvements and would take a combined 10 first place finishes and a number of second place
finishes on their way to a couple of close losses to Midland and Saginaw. These meets would
be highlighted by Powers Sophomore Max Piper as he swam 3 lifetime best times over the
course of these meets.
On a team that lost 60% of its numbers to graduation last year there was a lot of uncertainty
surrounding this season but all those worries have been cast aside as an infusion of young
talent paired with our outstanding returning swimmers have set up Powers to be a very
competitive team. The Chargers look to prove this in the Genesee County Meet being held at
Fenton High School this coming weekend. This meet is always extremely competitive and the
Chargers will look to defend their 3rd place finish from the previous season! Please wish the
boys luck and Go Chargers!
