2024 D4 Regional Champs!!!

Powers Varsity Girls Tennis are D4 REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!!
Wednesday, May 15th, was a great day for tennis and to be a PCAT Charger!

7 of our 8 flights entered the finals with determination and excitement to win all 7 and capture the Regional title, which hasn’t been won since 2017.

1S:  Ellisen LaFay (6-1, 6-4) (6-3, 6-4) (6-0, 6-1)
3S: Aerika Pertler (6-2, 6-3) (6-0, 6-2) (6-2, 6-3)
4S: Ava Williams (6-0, 6-0) (6-0, 6-0) (6-2, 6-3)

1D: Meredith Knight & Maryssa Safford (6-0, 6-0) (6-3, 6-3) (7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3)
2D: Lauren Start & Lolyana Yapchai (6-0, 6-0) (4-6, 6-1, 6-1) (6-3, 6-4)
3D: Faith Mattar & Marissa Villaire (6-1, 6-0) (6-3, 6-1) (6-2, 6-4)
4D: Marin Custack & Emilia Morse (6-0, 6-0) (6-2, 6-1) (4-6, 6-0, 6-2)

Outstanding performance by all!!! The Lady Chargers will head to Ann Arbor on May 31st to compete at States.

Week in Review: Three W’s!

The Varsity Team collected 3 wins this week, defeating Carmen-Ainsworth (8-0), Mt. Pleasant (5-3), and Lapeer (8-1).
The Doubles teams dominated the courts by sweeping all three opponents!

The Cavaliers didn’t stand a chance as the Chargers recorded 6-0 matches for all flights.

All Powers Doubles flights swept the Mt. Pleasant Oilers, scoring 4 points. Leading the pack was #4D duo, Marin Custack and Emilia Morse (6-1, 6-0), and #2D, Lauren Start and Lolyana Yapchai (6-3, 6-1).
After hard-fought tiebreakers, #1D, Meredith Knight and Maryssa Safford (7-6(4), 6-1) and #3D, Faith Mattar and Marissa Villaire (6-3,7-6(4)), rounded out the Doubles score.
#2S, Kallie Lloyd-Jones (6-2, 6-4), played with determination…adding the final point to secure a PCAT victory.

The Lady Chargers finished the week taking on the Lapeer Lightning.
The Singles flights clocked 3 points with #1S, Elli LaFay (7-5, 3-6, 6-4), splitting sets and winning the third. #3S, Aerika Pertler (6-3, 6-7(5), 10-2), showed her grit with 2 tiebreaker sets and #4, Ava Williams (6-4, 6-3).
Doubles domination continued with special spotlight to a #5 Doubles win from Sophomores, Audrey Ploucha and Sylvia Porrett (8-5).

Next week, the Chargers will compete against Saginaw United at home on Tuesday, Thursday away vs Midland, and Saturday vs Everest Quad.

Four Flights Take 2nd Place in Titan Quad

The Lady Chargers played in Jackson Lumen Christi’s Titan Quad on Saturday.
Each flight played with determination, bringing home a 3rd place finish.

Varsity girls play 3 home matches this week, starting with Carmen-Ainsworth today at 5pm. Tuesday, Varsity and JV will take on the Mt Pleasant Oilers and Thursday, the Lapeer Lightning team! Let’s go PCAT!!

Chargers sweep the Warriors 8-0!

Despite the windy conditions, it was a clean sweep for PCAT Varsity’s Singles and Doubles as they dominated Bay City Western 8-0.
All four Doubles teams stood tall, never giving up more than 2 games in a set.
2 Doubles, Lauren Start (12) and Loly Yapchai (10) walked off the courts with a 6-1, 6-0 win to score Powers Catholic their first point.
1-4 Singles took direct wind hits, but after adjusting their game, successfully claimed victory led by Sr. Ava Williams (4S) 6-2, 6-0 and Jr. Aerika Pertler (3S) 6-1, 6-3. Sophomores, Elli LaFay (1S) and Kallie Lloyd-Jones (2S), battled tie breaker sets to finish and seal the win.
Lady Chargers will take on Jackson Lumen, Norte Dame Prep and Monroe St. Mary in this Saturday’s quad.

Varsity Tennis Summary 4/8/24 vs Imlay City

Powers Varsity Girls Tennis showed a lot of energy and passion today during their first match of the season against Regional match up, Imlay City.
Singles players displayed their grit and continued to push until the end of each match. Sophomore Kallie Lloyd-Jones battled through a 3 hours and 45 minute match of strength and mental toughness.
The Lady Chargers swept the doubles matches led by 4 Doubles, Seniors Marin Custack and Emilia Morse, with a quick 6-0,6-0 win. 2 Doubles, Lauren Start (12) and Loly Yapchai (10), along with 3 Doubles, Faith Mattar (11) and Marissa Villaire (11), dominated with 6-0, 6-1 wins. After overcoming a first set loss in a tiebreaker, 1 Doubles, Meredith Knight (12) and Maryssa Safford (11), found their resolve and mental toughness to take over the match in the final two sets.
The team will travel to Bay City and take on the Warriors today at 4pm and head north again to battle against Midland Dow, Thursday at 5pm.
