POWERS GOLF REGIONAL CHAMPS!!!

Powers competed in the MHSAA Regional #10 today and emerged as Regional Champions. The tournament was hosted by DeWitt HS and played at Timber Ridge GC in Bath MI. Powers totaled 330 followed by DeWitt at 333 and Alpena at 340. The 3 top teams all qualified for the state finals which will be held on June 9 & 10 at the Fortress in Frankenmuth. Robert Burns of Powers was also tournament Medalist with a spectacular score of -4 68. Robert bested Landon Watters of Kearsley who was runner up by 8 shots. Robert’s round was highlighted by an eagle 2 on the 306 yard par 4 12th hole. He also had 4 birdies to offset 2 bogies. Also competing for the Chargers were Kyle Barbour 81, Zane Farah 87, Dom Mavredes 94, and Cooper Gerhardt 99.
Powers Takes 6th in OLSM Invitational

Powers Varsity golf competed in today’s Grand Blanc/ OLSM invitational held at Spring Meadows CC in Linden. The tournament champions were the Blue Devils from Grosse Pointe South HS with a total of 303. Powers finished in 6th place with a 310 total in the hotly contested tournament. Everest Collegiate 305, Grand Blanc and Country Day 307 and U of D Jesuit 309 also finished ahead of the Chargers. The tournament co-medalists were Tyler Brody of Grand Blanc and Remy Stalcup from Everest Collegiate at (-2) 70. Robert Burns finisher in 4th place with a score of 74. Kyle Barbour from Powers finished in a 5 th place tie at 75. Also competing today for Powers were Zane Farah 78, Cooper Gerhardt 85 and Dom Mavredes 86. Powers final regular season tournament will be the DeWitt Invitational on Thursday at Timber Ridge GC in Lansing MI.
PCAT Golf Takes 3rd In Katke Tournament

Powers golf team competed today (05/20) in the 2nd and final round of the 2 day36 hole tournament hosted by Big Rapids HS and played at Ferris State University’s Katke GC. The Chargers entered the day in fourth place after day 1 and were able to move into 3rd place upon completion of play today. The tournament champions were Grand Rapids CC with a 2 day total of 625. Finishing in 2nd was Lake Orion HS with a total of 643 followed by Powers at 651. Tournament medalist was Will Preston of GRCC with a (-4) 140 total. Next was Connor Fox the opening round leader from Lake Orion with a (-3) total of141. Robert Burns fired a -1 71 today for a 147 total to take 3 rd place individually. Other scores for Powers today were Zane Farah 81, Kyle Barbour and Dom Mavredes at 90 strokes each, Cooper Gerhardt 91, and Nick Kurtiak at 95.
PCAT Golf Sit 4th After Day 1

Powers traveled today (05/19) to Big Rapids to compete in the 2day, 36 hole tournament held at Ferris State University’s Katke GC.The Chargers sit in 4th place out of 21 teams after day 1. Powers totaled 319 and trail the tournament leaders from Traverse City West HS who shot 310. Grand Rapids CC ( 311) and Lake Orion (316) finished ahead of the Chargers. Medalist for today’s round was Sophomore Connor Fox from Lake Orion with a score of (-6) 66 on the par 72 layout. Robert Burns is in a 3 way tie for 7th and Kyle Barbour is in a 5 way tie for 10th with scores of 76 and 77 respectively for individual honors. Also competing for Powers were Dom Mavredes 82, Zane Farah 83, Nick Kurtiak 85, and Cooper Gerhardt 95. The tournament final round starts tomorrow morning with a 9:00am shot gun start.
Powers Golf Clinches Gold

Powers Varsity golf team competed in the SVL Finals today 05 /17. The tournament was held at the Fortress GC in Frankenmuth MI. Powers won the tournament by 5 strokes over runners up Grand Blanc thus securing its 3rd consecutive SVL Championship. In a winner take all scenario Powers fired a 316 to The Bobcats 321. In the individual honors Robert Burns of Powers shot a (-3) 69 to win the medalist title. Robert trailed Tyler Brody of Grand Blanc by 1 shot after the first 3 rounds of league play but bested Tyler (+1) 73 by 4 shots today to take home the SVL MVP award given to the player with the best stroke total over the 4 league events. He had 4 consecutive birdies on holes 3 through 6 to take a a 5 shot lead and he never looked back. Robert averaged an astounding 71.0 in league play. Also competing for the Chargers and helping to secure the league title were Kyle Barbour 80, Zane Farah 83, Dom Mavredes 84, Cooper Gerhardt 85, and freshman Jack Johnson 93. GO CHARGERS!
In other news from today, the all- league selection process was completed after todays round. Powers golfers claimed 5 positions of honor.

Chargers Take 2nd at Currie Golf Club

Powers competed in the 3rd of 4 SVL events today at Currie GC in Midland MI. The Chargers finished 2nd to Grand Bland, 318 to 323. Tyler Brody of GB was tournament medalist at -2 70. Robert Burns of Powers finished 2nd individually at +2 74. Also playing for the Chargers were Zane Farah 81, Kyle Barbour 82, Cooper Gerhardt and Dom Mavredes 86s, and Nick Kurtiak 94. The loss today set up a winner take all show down next week at the Fortress in Frankenmuth between the Chargers and the Bobcats for the League title.
Powers Takes 2nd In Charger Invitational

Powers competed on Monday in the annual Charger Invitational held at the Flint Golf Club. Orchard Lake St Mary won the event with a score of 307 besting Powers who finished 2nd by 7 shots. The Chargers total of 314 was 3 strokes better than the 3rd place Bobcats from Grand Blanc (317). There were 23 teams competing in the highly competitive event. Only 2 players finished the tournament under par with Remy Stalcup form Everest Collegiate the tournament medalist shooting 69 (-3). Cooper Eaton from OLSM shot a (-2) 70. Robert Burns of Powers was 3rd at even par 72. Also scoring for the Chargers were Cooper Gerhardt 79, Dom Mavredes 81, Zane Farah 82 nad Kyle Barbour 83.
Both Powers and OLSM entered 2 teams into the event and these teams tied for 15th place with identical scores of 350. For Powers the scorers were Riley Carroll 85, Jackson Levijoki and Nick Kurtiak 88s, Caleb Sells 89, and Aaron Romzek 94.
Powers pulls into 4th at Orange Theory Fitness Invitational

Powers Varsity golf team competed Saturday in the Orange Theory Fitness Invitational held at Hudson Mills GC in Pinckney Mi. The tournament champions were The Troy Colts firing a total of 316 on the par 70 layout. Powers finished 4th out of 15 teams The Chargers had a share of the lead with 3 holes to play but a series of late bogies cost them the title. Powers had 3 players in the lineup for their 1st ever varsity competition. Freshman Jack Johnson fired a 78 to lead the Chargers in his debut, good for a 7th place finish as an individual . Junior Matt Lavoie 81, and Sophomore Austin Hampton 83 were also new to the line up and contributed to Powers 322 total. Zane Farah 80 completes the scoring for the team. Also competing was Jackson Levijoki 84. Next up for Powers is the 23 team Charger Invitational on Monday 05/08 at the Flint Golf Club with a 12:00pm shotgun start.
Powers Falls Just Shy of Grand Blanc

Powers competed in the 2nd of 4 SVL events on Wednesday 5/03. The event was held at Flushing Valley GC. Powers came up 3shots short falling to Grand Blanc who fired a 313 to Powers 316. This puts Powers and Grand Bland in a 1st place tie midway through the SVL season. Tyler Brody of G.B. was the tournaments medalist with an even par round of 71 edging out Robert Burns of Powers (+1 ) 72. Also in the lineup for the Chargers were Kyle Barbour(78), Dom Mavredes (82), Zane Farah and Cooper Gerhardt (84) and Nick Kurtiak at 88.
6th place for Powers Golf at Corporal B Invitational

The Varsity golf team competed Friday 2/28 at American Dunes GC in Grand Haven MI. in the 2nd annual “Corporal B” Invitational. The invitational is limited to the top 18 teams in the state based on last years state finals results. Powers battled hard but came up short at the end to finish in 6th place. For most of the day the Chargers were in 2nd place trailing eventual champions Northville HS by a single stroke. A rough last 2 holes dropped Powers to 6th place with a very respectable score of 310. Northville fired a sizzling 300 followed closely by Detroit CC. @302. Ann Arbor Skyline (303), G.R. Christian (304), and G.R.Catholic (308) filled out the top 5 teams.
On the individual side of the tournament Robert Burns from Powers was the tournament medalist posting a score of 70(-2). Julian Menser from DCC and Nicolas Taylor from Muskegon Mona Shores tied for runner-up honors with scores of 71 (-1). Also competing for the Chargers were Cooper Gerhardt and Zane Farah firing a pair of 79s, Kyle Barbour 82, and Dom Mavredes 85. Powers has 3 tournaments next week. Monday at Edgewood CC, Wednesday in the second of 4 SVL events at Flushing Valley, and Saturday at Huron Meadows GC.

On Monday Powers competed in the Embers Invitational held at Edgewood CC in Commerce Township. The Chargers finished in 14th place out of 22 teams with a score of 328. Detroit Catholic Central placed 1st with a score of 306. Robert Burns of Powers was tournament medalist with a -1 total of 70. This is the 3rd tournament in a row and 4 out of 7 that Robert has had sub par scores. Also scoring for Powers were Nick Kurtiak 85, Riley Carroll 86, Caleb Sells 87, and Aaron Romzek 81.

Robert Burns was tournament medalist with a score of 71 (-1) Tyler Brody from Grand Blanc finished 2nd (75) and Power's Cooper Gerhardt was 3rd at 79. Also competing for Powers were Zane Farah 86, Kyle Barbour 87, Jackson Levijoki 92, and Dom Mavredes 98.
Powers travels to Grand Haven MI on Friday to compete in the American Dunes GC "Corporal B" Invitational. Powers honorary 6th man is Sergeant Greg Bradford Jr. Sergeant Bradford served in the U.S. Marines and was in the first group of Marines to enter Iraq in2003. He and his group were instrumental in securing Iraq, earning the prestigious Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal which is awarded to service personnel for exceptional accomplishments in combat. Sgt. Bradford was also awarded the Purple Heart for injuries incurred during battle. Sgt. Bradford is the uncle of Powers Senior Dom Mavredes
PCHS Varsity Golf takes on Next Tee Invitational

Powers Varsity Golf competed in the Next Tee Varsity Invitational today. The event was held at Oakland Hills CC (North Course). Brighton HS captured the team championship with a score of 297.besting runner up Brother Rice (306) by 9 strokes.
There were 27 teams from around the state competing in the tournament. Powers finished in 19th place with a score of 339. Robert Burns led the Chargers with a score of 74. Jackson Levijoki added a 83. Other scores for Powers were Cooper Gerhardt 89, Nick Kurtiak 92, and Caleb Sells 97.
The tournament medalist was Will Preston from G.R. Catholic Central with a score of 68 on the par 70 course. Sophomore Tyler Brody from Grand Blanc was individual runner up at even par 70.
Next up for Powers is the SVL opening event on Thursday 4/27 at Metamora GC and then the Corporal B High School Invitational at American Dunes GC on the 28th.

Powers competed in the Waynes Wire Cloth Invitational on Saturday April 22nd. The event was played at The Fortress in Frankenmuth. Powers finished in 13th place out of 18 teams with a score of 334. Detroit Catholic Central entered 2 teams into the tournament and took 1st and 2 place with scores of 311 and 312 respectively. Brighton was a close 3rd at 314. The tournament medalist was sophomore Connor Fox from Lake Orion HS with a score of 70 (-2) Robert Burns led the way for the Chargers with a score of 74 good for 5th place individually. Robert was leading the tournament at -3 but a stretch of bad holes on the back nine cost him the lead. Zane Farah added a 79 Also competing for Powers were Jackson Levijoki 89, Cooper Gerhardt 92, and Aaron Romzek 95. Powers next competition is the Next Tee Varsity Invitational on Monday April 24th at Oakland Hills CC.
Powers Golf Rises In Weekend Tournament

Powers competed Saturday 04/15 in an Invitational hosted Brother Rice HS at Copper Hills GC in Oxford MI. The Chargers won the event placing 3 golfers in the top six individually. The Chargers posted a score of 324 besting U of D Jesuit by 7 strokes while Brother Rice finished 3rd with a score of 331. Individual medalist was Brady Cahill from Brother Rice(74) followed by Robert Burns at 77. Cooper Gerhardt finished 5th and Dom Mavredes 6th with scores of 80 and 81 respectively. Also competing for Powers were ZaneFarah (86) and Riley Carroll (98). Next up for Powers is the Hazen Transfer Invitational to be held on Monday 04/17 at Red Run CC in Royal Oak MI.

Leading the way for Powers was Robert Burns -5 66. The tournament medalist from Brighton HS was Winston Lerch -6 65. Also. Competing for the Chargers were Zane Farah 76, Kyle Barbour 82 and Cooper Gerhardt and Nick Kurtiak with a pair of 86s.
