A complete, connected performance powered Powers Catholic (6-1) to a 54–43 home victory over Pewamo-Westphalia (5-1) on Tuesday night, as the Chargers used depth, defensive pressure, and poise to control the game from start to finish. Powers came out with purpose, setting the tone early behind aggressive defense and confident ball movement. The Chargers jumped out to a 15–10 first-quarter lead, then elevated their play in the second quarter by defending without fouling and attacking gaps offensively. That stretch produced a 17–9 run in the second frame and sent Powers into halftime with a 32–19 advantage. Offensively, the Chargers were led by balance rather than one primary option, placing consistent pressure on Pewamo-Westphalia’s defense. Kendyl Smith finished with a team-high 13 points, hitting three three-pointers and pulling down eight rebounds while spacing the floor and creating driving lanes. Bella Harley provided a steady offensive spark, scoring 12 points on an efficient 4-of-5 shooting night, including two threes, while also handing out six assists and orchestrating the offense. Inside, Evah Smith delivered a physical presence, recording 11 points and seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end that helped extend possessions and shift momentum at key moments. Completing the balanced attack was Paige Ringwelski, who added 10 points while consistently getting to her spots and finishing through contact. Her ability to score within the flow of the offense forced defensive adjustments and further opened the floor for her teammates, giving Powers four players in double figures on the night. Pewamo-Westphalia looked to respond in the third quarter, matching Powers with 12 points, but the Chargers never lost control. Even during stretches when the offense slowed, Powers leaned on its defense and rebounding to dictate the pace. The fourth quarter showcased the Chargers’ maturity. Powers shot over 70 percent from the field in the final frame and executed late possessions with discipline, closing out the game without allowing any sustained run. The Chargers finished with 14 assists on 19 made field goals, a reflection of unselfish play, and forced 19 turnovers, turning pressure into opportunities on both ends of the floor. Powers also controlled the glass, winning the rebounding battle 29–25 and generating 10 offensive rebounds, which proved critical in limiting Pewamo-Westphalia’s transition chances and maintaining momentum. By the final horn, the score told the story of a team that defended, shared the ball, and trusted each other. The 54–43 win was a clear example of Powers Catholic’s identity—connected basketball built on effort, balance, and execution. The Chargers head to Midland to face SVL North for Midland Dow in a non-conference match up this Thursday. Tip off set for 7:00pm and JV at 5:30pm
