The Flint Powers Catholic Chargers boys swim team returned from holiday break with a split performance at their tri-meet hosted at Saginaw Heritage High School. The Chargers defeated Bay City Central 97-81 but fell to the host Saginaw Heritage 107-75. The meet showcased several standout performances from the Chargers. The team got off to a strong start with a victory in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where Clark, McCarthy, Roeser, and Sawatzki combined for a winning time of 1:55.87. Senior Ethan Ratynski delivered one of the day's best individual performances, capturing first place in the 100 Yard Free with a time of 55.77 seconds. Declan McCarthy proved to be a dominant force, winning the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:13.84 while also contributing to the winning medley relay. McCarthy's versatility was further evident with a third-place finish in the 200 IM. Parker Roeser demonstrated strong distance swimming capabilities with a second-place finish in the 500 Free (5:50.77), while Thomas Ryan took third in the same event. The Chargers showed considerable depth across multiple events. Cole Sawatzki placed third in the 100 Breaststroke and contributed to both the winning medley relay and the second-place 200 Free Relay team. Jacob Clark anchored the backstroke events with a second-place finish in the 100 Back. The 200 Free Relay team of Sawatzki, McCarthy, Fisher, and Ryan secured second place with a time of 1:53.89, demonstrating the team's relay strength. While the 400 Free Relay team of Clark, Ryan, Roeser and Ratynski ended the meet with a strong second place finish. The Chargers' solid win over Bay City Central and multiple individual victories suggest positive momentum heading into the heart of the season. The Chargers’ next meet is at Fenton High School for the county invitational on January 16 and 17th!
