Men's Track Wins Season Opener The track team opened up the 2026 season at the annual Jim Gardiner Invitational hosted by Aquinas College. The men's team showed off their depth by winning 6 of the 14 events en route to a total of 121 points which was enough to win the 2nd straight title over Grand Rapids Catholic Central. In the 60 meter dash Jayce Beauchamp broke the tape with Grant Roberts finishing 2nd in times of 7.15 and 7.16 seconds. Roberts led a trio of Chargers in the top 6 of the 200 meter dash as Beauchamp finished 3rd and Princeton Clack snagged 6th. Roberts was a double winner as he took first in the 400 meter dash. Ryan Rathsburg ran a gritty race to finish 3rd in the 800 meter run. Griffin Solano and Ben Bouchey clocked personal records times of 4:53 and 4:56 to take 3rd and 4th in the mile run. With the meet on the line seniors Caleb Carignan and Tommy Beiter wrapped up the win with a 1-2 finish and 18 big points in the 3000 meter run. Both Caleb and Tommy ran under the previous best known time by a Charger in the lightly contested 3000 meter distance. In the relays the Chargers showed off their depth with 2 firsts and a second in the 3 relays. The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Breckin Cicalo, Princeton Clack, Lennox Naswell and Jayce Beauchamp finished 2nd to a strong team from Lansing Catholic Central. The Sprint Medley relay (400-200-200-800) team of Quentin Cokely, Breckin Cicalo, Hudson Miller and Lennox Naswell took first with the impressive time of 3:44.58. This is the best recorded time by a Charger team in the 400-200-200-800 medley relay. The prior best was a 2018 team of Kaden Nelson, Henry Warner, Joey Zorn and Chandler Lorf. That group was the heart and soul of a legendary team that won regional and conference titles along with breaking four school records. The 4 x 800 meter relay team featuring all staters Carignan, Naswell and Beiter along with cross country state meet hero Ryan Rathsburg. Early on they took control of the race and proved to be the class of the field while taking the win in the excellent early season time of 8:27. In the field events Tyler Wood led the Chargers with a runner up finish in high jump. Wood’s personal record effort cleared 6’0 and was also the 1st entry of the season in the top 10 lists. Previously he was tied for 10th all time with 4 other Chargers, Ron Gildersleeve, Gabe Lovett, Christian Dedivanaj and current senior Michael Caudle. Tyler moved into a 4 way tie for 7th place along with Kaden Nelson, Mike Herman and Henry Cokley. The women’s team performed well finishing 5th in the 9 team field. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Lily Potochny, Mila Villarreal, Victoria Bouchey and Sara Piper finished runners up behind a very strong Lansing Catholic team. Elle Doherty finished 3rd in the high jump. Michaela Wolosk earned runner up honors in the 200 meter dash. Mila Villarreal earned a podium finish in the mile run.
