On another chilly and windy day the Chargers found a way to extend their undefeated streak at the Lansing Catholic Relays. Powers was up by 10 points over Detroit Catholic Central after the final event. However the format of this meet awards 5 bonus points for setting a meet record. Catholic Central set meet records in the 800 meter relay, shot put and discus. Lennox Naswell set a meet record in the 3200 meter run leading to a tie score. Meet host and Lansing Catholic coach Tim Simpson awarded the Chargers the first place trophy in a tie breaker. The format of this meet included the field events, both hurdle races, the 3200 meter run and 8 relays of varying distances. While wind and cold temps kept performances down, the effort was evident across the board. Tyler Woods was the individual champion in the high jump clearing a height of 5’11. He was joined by Shivam Srivastava in 6th place and Anthony Stevenson in 8th. Princeton Clack picked up 2nd in the long jump in his first time competing in that event this season. Pole vault was another bright spot for the Chargers as Cooper Villarie was 3rd and Ben Bouchey was 6th. Alex Bissett placed 8th in the discus. On the track the 3200 meter relay of Griffin Solano, Caleb Carignan, Thomas Beiter and Lennox Naswell placed second. Carignan, Beiter and Naswell were joined by freshmen Joseph Cecchini in the distance medley relay where they placed 1st overall. The Mid Distance Medley Relay of Quintin Cokely, James Phillips, Nick York and Byrce Goss placed 4th overall. This was Gross’ return to the track after a devastating knee injury sidelined him in February and his pain free 2:04 split was one of the highlights of the meet. Quentin Cokley placed 7th in the 110 hurdles. The 400 meter relay team of Jayce Beauchamp, Princeton Clack, Breckin Cicalo and Grant Roberts finished 1st and remained undefeated on the year. The 800 meter relay team of Beauchamp, Clack, Quentin and Roberts placed second to a strong team from Detroit Catholic Central that is expected to contend for the Division One state title. The sprint medley relay team of Cicalo, Anthony Stevenson, Brody Campbell and Will Bade placed 6th overall. In everyone’s favorite race the thrower’s relay team of Alex Bisset, Ryan Rathsburg, Aaron Labataille and Tyler Wood picked up 1st place.
