Records Fall at the Regionals Championships Three school records fell at regionals and a host of Chargers qualified for the state finals. Michaela Wolosuk was the Charger’s lone individual champion as she dominated the 200 meter field to win the regional title after finishing in 3rd place as a junior. In order to qualify for that finals you must place first or second or exceed the qualifying standard. Wolosuk’s personal record time of 26.44 trails only school record holder Monique Williams. Wolosuk also finished 7th in the 100 meter dash. Freshman Maria Haj finished 9th in the mile in a personal best time of 5:50.37. Sophomore Mila Villarreal finished 8th in the 3200 meter run in a personal record time of 11:57.49. This is the 10th best performance in school history. Mila knocked Natalie Wehner out of the top 10.. Wehner was a 2021 Powers graduate who was a standout for the cross country and track programs and later went on to run for Central Michigan University. Sophomore Caitlin Campbell finished 8th in 100 meter hurdles. The 1600 meter relay team of Michaela Wolosuk, Victoria Bouchey, Lily Pototchny, and Elle Doherty ran their best time of the season and narrowly missed qualifying for the state finals on a time standard. Their time of 4:17.56 is the 6th best performance in school. The 3200 meter relay team of Victoria Bouchey, Lily Pototchny, Maria Haj and Mila Villarreal placed third in a season best time of 10:20.57. In the field events Evah Smith qualified for her 2nd state finals with a personal record performance of 37’1 in the shot put. This was good enough for a runner up finish. Laila Washington placed 7th with a personal record 29’3.25 On the men’s side Jayce Beauchamp finished 2nd in the 100 by .01 seconds to Saginaw Swan Valley’s Torrance McMurren. Grant Roberts was edged for the 200 meter title by Issac Jacobs of Corunna. Princeton Clack finished 4th overall in the 200. Bryce Gross finished 5th in the 800 meter run but finished just under the qualifying standard of 2:00.5 with a 2:00.15 performance. Lennox Naswell ran a personal best time in the mile to take 2nd overall. Naswell’s time of 4:18.64 is 5th in school history. Bryce Gross finished 7th overall but ran under the state meet standard and qualified for the state finals. The 3200 meter run saw an amazing 8 Chargers take the start line. Caleb Carignan finished 2nd overall in a personal best time of 9:44.41. He was followed by Thomas Beiter in 9:45.43 which is also a personal record and was under the state meet standard. Ben Bouchey went under the 10 minute barrier and finished 9th overall. Griffin Solano ran a huge personal record with a time of 10:02.93 and finished 10th overall. In the 300 meter hurdles Quentin Cokely continued his string of personal best and ran a time of 41.21 to take 7th. Cokely was one of an amazing 9 athletes who went under the qualifying standard. In the field events Tyler Woods finished 5th in the high jump, Brody Canpbell placed 7th in the pole vault and Princeton Clack finished 7th in the long jump The fireworks really started for the Chargers in the relays. The 400 meter relay team of Hudson Miller, Jayce Beauchamp, Breckin Cicalo and Grant Roberts ran away with the regional title and a personal best time of 42.54. This moves the foursome into sole possession of the school record. The 800 meter relay team of Princeton Clack, Jayce Beauchamp, Hudson Miller, and Grant Roberts broke the 1 year old school record with a time of 1:28.28. The group of Jayce Beauchamp, Javontae Ross, Leo Stravato and Grant Roberts ran 1:28.37 at regionals last year. Stravato is now at Spring Arbor where he is a member of the soccer team and Ross is at Saginaw Valley where he is a member of the basketball team. The 400 meter relay team of Hudson Miller, Jayce Beauchamp, Breckin Cicalo and Grant Roberts ran away with the regional title and a personal best time of 42.54. This moves the foursome into sole possession of the school record. In the final race of the day the group of Princeton Clack, Jayce Beauchamp, Quinton Cokely, and Grant Roberts took the track for the 1600 meter relay. The finished 2nd to a group from Frankenmuth but in the course of the race the two teams pushed themselves to the two fastest times in Division 2 track. The Charger’s time of 3:23.50 went under the prior school record of 3:24.21 that has stood since 2018. The prior school record holders Myles Hall, Tahj Edwards, Hollister Fechik and Chandler Lorf were part of a group that set the standard of excellence that exists to this day. In the team race the Chargers finished 2nd to Frankenmuth and the women finished 9th.
