SAGINAW — McKenna Kelly finished third overall with a 79 to lead Flint Powers Catholic to a second-place finish Wednesday at the Saginaw Valley League Meet No. 3 at Saginaw Country Club. The Chargers posted a team score of 356, finishing 16 strokes behind first-place Grand Blanc, which won the meet with a 340. Powers finished comfortably ahead of third-place Saginaw Heritage, which carded a 376. Kelly, a junior, was the top Powers finisher and one of three Chargers to place among the top eight individually. She shot an 8-over-par 79, finishing behind Grand Blanc's Caroline Baier, who earned medalist honors with a 73, and Maria Baier, who finished second with a 75. Junior Laney Applegate added an 89 to place seventh overall, while sophomore Isabelle Mark finished eighth with a 90. Senior Emersyn Granata rounded out Powers' scoring with a 98, tying for 15th place. Senior Emma Darmafall posted a 102, while sophomore Sloane Matheson carded a 105 for the Chargers. The balanced performance gave Powers four scorers inside the top 15 and helped the Chargers separate themselves from the rest of the field. Saginaw Heritage finished 20 strokes behind Powers, followed by Midland Dow at 389 and Bay City Western at 404.
