MIDLAND, Mich. — Lennox Naswell won the individual boys championship and Powers Catholic turned in a pair of strong team performances Saturday at the 7th Annual Northwood Cross Country Invitational at Northwood University. The Powers boys finished second among 16 teams with 69 points, while the girls placed sixth with 163 points in the 5-kilometer races. Naswell, a junior, led the boys field with a winning time of 15:33.10, finishing 23.9 seconds ahead of Grand Blanc's Tommy McCormick. The victory highlighted a strong front end for the Chargers, who placed three runners among the top nine. Junior Ryan Rathsburg finished sixth in 16:20.90, followed closely by senior Ben Bouchey in ninth at 16:24.40. Junior Griffin Solano was 26th in 17:15.50, and junior Alexander Iordanou rounded out the scoring five in 29th at 17:22.80. Junior Charlie Penneau was Powers' sixth runner, placing 33rd in 17:26.70. Powers finished behind team champion Midland, which scored 59 points, and ahead of Saginaw Heritage, which had 80. The Chargers' girls team also produced a strong showing, scoring 163 points to finish sixth in a 12-team field. Junior Victoria Bouchey paced Powers with a 14th-place finish in 21:09.00, while junior Mila Villarreal was right behind in 15th at 21:14.90. Sophomore Maria Haj placed 40th in 22:42.30, freshman Jade McCormick was 47th in 23:11.00, and freshman Samantha Randazzo finished 63rd in 24:13.90 to complete the scoring. Junior Kylie Roberts finished 82nd in 25:16.60, and freshman Riley Sovis was 90th in 25:41.20. Midland Dow won the girls team championship with 53 points, followed by Sanford-Meridian with 133 and Grand Blanc with 135. The Northwood Invitational provided an early-season test against a deep field and showcased Powers' strength at the front of both varsity squads, with the boys earning a runner-up finish and Naswell claiming individual honors.
