FLINT, Mich. — Powers Catholic had waited 687 days for this. The Chargers ended one of the longest droughts in program history Friday night, rolling past Hamady 56-0 for their first varsity football victory since Oct. 25, 2024, when Powers defeated Flint Beecher. Powers (1-2) scored early and often and led 42-0 at halftime before a running clock shortened the second half. The Chargers' defense completed the shutout while the offense piled up 270 total yards, including 253 on the ground. Powers wasted little time taking control. Jayce Beauchamp opened the scoring with an 83-yard kickoff return with 11:46 remaining in the first quarter. Beauchamp added a 2-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, followed by a 2-yard touchdown run by Hudson Miller that gave the Chargers a 21-0 advantage. Powers continued to pull away in the second quarter. Tommy Begola scored on a 1-yard run, then connected with Drey Walton on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Makai Allen added a 1-yard touchdown run as the Chargers built their 42-0 halftime lead. The Chargers' ground game was led by Beauchamp, who rushed eight times for 99 yards and a touchdown. Miller added 72 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while Noah Moody ran once for 29 yards and a score. Allen contributed 28 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Defensively, Aidan Corcoran provided one of the game's biggest plays, intercepting two passes and returning one 53 yards for a touchdown. Corcoran finished with four tackles and 119 interception-return yards. The Chargers recorded two sacks and recovered one fumble while holding Hamady scoreless. Corcoran's interception return accounted for Powers' only touchdown of the third quarter, and Moody capped the scoring with a 29-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Bryson Vance also came up with a notable defensive play late in the game, recording a tackle for loss as Powers finished off the shutout. Lincoln Rainney handled the kicking duties, making six of seven extra-point attempts. The victory gives Jeremy Ferman's Chargers their first win since 2024 and provides a significant milestone for a program that had gone 687 days between varsity victories. Hamady fell to 0-2. Powers returns home next Friday, Sept. 18, when it hosts Saginaw United at Atwood Stadium at 7 p.m. The Phoenix enter the matchup 0-3 after falling to Lapeer 41-0.
