Charger Cross Country Wins Season Opener The Powers Catholic men’s cross country team showcased their depth in dominant fashion, coming just shy of a perfect score at the annual Corunna Early Bird Invitational. The Chargers captured five of the top six spots, finishing with an impressive team score of 18 points. The only interruption to the sweep came from Goodrich’s Vincent Pattinson, who placed third overall. Leading the charge, Lennox Naswell and Bryce Gross finished 1-2, with Naswell setting a new course record in a personal-best time of 15:37.40. Senior Caleb Carginan also turned in a breakthrough performance, breaking the 16-minute barrier for the first time in his career with a personal best of 15:56.7. Sophomore Ryan Rathsburg and senior Tommy Beiter rounded out the scoring five in 5th and 6th place, while junior Ben Bouchey finished as the team’s sixth runner. Sophomore Griffin Solano added to the strong performance, placing seventh for the Chargers with a major personal record. On the women’s side, the Chargers placed 5th in a competitive nine-team field. Defending state champion Goodrich claimed the top spot. Powers was led by the duo of Mila Villarreal (8th) and Devin Dietrich (16th).
