Chargers Boys Tennis Secures 4th Place Finish at 2025 SVL Championship The Chargers boys’ tennis team delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 SVL Championship, finishing 4th overall—a major jump from last year’s 8th place showing. The team’s grit, determination, and standout matches showcased the depth of talent across the roster. Leading the charge were the dynamic Doubles 2 duo of Andrew Tiong and Shivam Srivastava and Singles 2 standout Brody Campbell, who each fought their way to the Finals. Recognized by MLive as “2025 Boys Tennis Players to Watch,” Tiong and Srivastava opened the tournament strong with a 10-4 win over Lapeer. In the semifinals, they met Midland for a rematch of an earlier season loss. Determined to flip the script, the pair battled to a dramatic three-set victory, clinching the match in a thrilling tiebreak (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6)). Their run came to an end in the Finals against Midland Dow, but the seniors walked away with a hard-fought runner-up finish. On the singles side, Senior Brody Campbell continued to shine. After rolling past Davison 10-2 in the opening round, Campbell faced Saginaw Heritage’s Chandler Pryor—who had bested him earlier this season in a heartbreaking third-set tiebreak. This time, Campbell flipped the script, outlasting Pryor in a grueling three-hour match (6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4) to punch his ticket to the Finals. He ultimately fell to Midland Dow, finishing as SVL runner-up in Singles 2. The Chargers also found success in the consolation brackets. Sophomore Siddharth Srivastava claimed the Singles 3 Consolation Championship, defeating Davison (8-3) and Mt. Pleasant (8-4). In Doubles 4, seniors Easton Davidson and Tyler Wood were crowned champions after dominating Bay City Central (8-0) and edging Bay City Western (8-6). Other key performances included: • Singles 1, Jonah Klanseck, who outlasted Mt. Pleasant 10-8 before falling to eventual tournament champion Chase Martin of Midland Dow. Notably, Klanseck scored more games against Martin than any other player in the field. • Doubles 1, Ace and Asher Akinpeloye, who advanced with a 10-2 win over Bay City Central before bowing out against Midland Dow. • Doubles 3, Sam Scully and Joseph Buerge, who blanked Bay City Central 10-0 before falling to Midland in round two. • Singles 4, Ryan DeVos, who fought hard against Midland in a competitive 3-8 match. With strong leadership from its seniors and breakout performances from underclassmen, the Chargers proved themselves as contenders in the SVL and set the stage for continued success. Congratulations to the Chargers on an outstanding season and a top-four finish in the conference!
