Powers wins the Bishop's Cup

Powers defeated Lansing Catholic in the opening round 72-58. Powers got off to a 16-2 start and led by 25 in the 2nd quarter. Lansing Catholic continued to fight in the second half cutting the lead to 11 before a 9-0 run put the game out of reach. The Chargers forced 18 turnovers and had 19 offensive rebounds to help propel them to victory. Vincent Bates led the Chargers with 18 points. Malachi Taylor added 13 points and Isaac Sturgess had 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Powers followed up the win Tuesday with a win in the championship game over Father Gabriel Richard by a score of 53-52. Vincent Bates knocked in a free throw with 9 seconds remaining and Connor Kelly had a strong defensive play on the other end to seal the victory. Game 2 was more of a defensive battle with both teams struggling to take care of the ball. However, that was due to very strong defensive effort. Powers never trailed in the game and had 15 assists on 20 made field goals. The Chargers also forced 24 turnovers on the day. Javontae Ross led the Chargers with 13 points. Vincent Bates added 9 points and 5 steals and Connor Kelly stuffed the stat sheet with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.

Powerts returns to the floor January 5th at home to take on Beecher in a JV, Varsity double header.
